I had just under 29 mpg on a one way 140 mile trip in the Overland with stock wheels tires. Did the same trip a few weeks later on the Rubicon wheels and tires...dropped to just over 26 mpg. Tolerable I suppose...but if I plan on taking a longer raod trip, I will be switching out to the Overland wheels and tires...at least that is my plan when I go to Yellowstone in September.
Why? that's 1,400 miles for you. At 29mpg it's 48 gallons, at 26 its 53. You're going to keep a set of wheels and tires around to save 5 gallons of gas across an occasional big road trip?

You've got more money sitting in them if you sell them than you do it you swap them. Then you also don't need to store them.

I routinely get (calculated fill to fill) 19+ bopping around and 23+ on the highway (70-75 mph cruising). Drop one mpg for the winter. Stone stock Overland. I also get about 13 mpg towing my travel trailer (5,300 lb loaded for camping and 27' long).
That's not far from what I go when my Overland was totally stock. It was impressive for a brick shaped like a truck. (or is that a truck shaped like a brick? No matter, I guess)

I've only owned it so far during winter months but I've been at 16-17 mpg on all of my tanks so far. Rock stock, mostly city driving, I'm pretty easy on it.

Well after taking a road trip...I had to swap them out. There was a stretch where I wasn't getting better than 16 on the highway. 13 through most of Kansas. It was an easy sale...especially since gas was getting stupid high in Colorado again.

25 mpg with stock wheels and tires. Des Moines to KC with cruise control at 70mph. Only had 3k on odometer at the time. Have 10k now and will be making a few trips this spring. Will be checking again.

I’m only in town doing short bursts and I’m at about 11mpg. Rubicon on 37s with 3”lift. Anyone know of any event where I can plant some trees that’s coming up??

Did a long weekend in Jackson, WY.

Starting out I told my wife to watch the MPGs; don't go 80 thru ID & MT. We swapped seats at St. Regis and she had the avg up to 17.8. I got in and started to test the optimal speed, starting at 80 and going down. In less than 15 minutes I had dropped to 16.5mph. By the time we got into Jackson the avg was 17.6mpg. Staying mostly at <70mph.

For the next few days, driving around Jackson (and idling a lot), the mpg crawled up to 19.2mpg.

The high-altitude air has the greatest impact, imo.

Coming home, I reset the calc and ended up 16.5mpg. We went a different way that was a winding pass, lots of small towns where you slowed and sped back up. Fought a strong wind through the most of the open areas of Idaho. First part was with snow. And I'll be looking into light heaters or whatever heated element options are out there. Was not fun to have this (pic below) over Snoqualmie Pass at midnight in a snowstorm

Stock JTR. You guys with 20+ blow me away, I don't know how you do it. I typically hover mid 18s.

I blamed that on living in the mountains until I visited my family in Oklahoma. I was averaging ~14 on i70 going east in to a headwind... Oof. To be fair, I don't hold back and let the 3.6 roar.

I got an easy 22-23 before my mods and A/T tires. I was pushing 23+ at times in the summer with a calm day. That all changed when I started spending money on it.

Lies...your all lying. Lol

4.10 gears, 315/70/17, recalibrated For tire size and lucky to hit 14 most days. (Mostly local driving, not much hwy).

Even when it was stock, I was lucky to hit 15.

side note: I dont really care. I knew what I was getting into when I bought her.

I got 29 regular highway driving up to Oregon. Hehe (diesel) was averaging 26.8 to and from work. Then winter fuel killed that. Currently sitting at 24.4. Be out heading to NM in June. 2k round trip. Plus sightseeing. See how she does.
