I really wanted a mojave when i started out looking, but got a high altitude. Reason is, its fully optioned at least mine was, and the interior is the nicest. Then i swapped the shocks, and added a few mods and its the best of both worlds.

My vote would be to a high altitude.

I’ve built rock crawlers in the past, but I went with an overland this time for pretty much the same reasons as you. It’s well equipped, 98% of my driving will be on the street getting where I gots to go, and the rest will be fishing and camping. I threw some 33s on and am about to install a leveling kit. Couldn’t be happier.

Pay attention to payload if that's a big deal; trims with the max tow package added get several hundred pounds more payload (up to 1710 lbs) vs sub 1200 lb payload for Rubicon/Mojave/Overland. Just jamming 4 adults and some luggage can nearly eat up all the available legal payload of non max tow trims.

Base sport with a manny or max tow if you need to tow. Most of the extra electronic add ons are a gimmick imo. There's nothing really in those packages you couldn't add yourself at this point for half the price. Theres value in not having to pay 7% interest on accessories even with good credit. The base sport Manny, max tow sport, Mojave, and rubi are the trims that really stand out to me atleast.

We went Overland for similar reasons, the UConnect 8.4, safety/advanced safety, and painted flares are great. Its also not as tall so loading/unloading is easier, and it has a smooth ride. As a side note, remember that a tow package gives you upgraded cooling and electrics, so even if you don't use it it makes the truck more robust (and hey, you can tow as a bonus!)

I added so many options to my JT Overland that I really should have just ordered a High Altitude as there wouldn't have been much, if any, price difference. Order the High Altitude.
Price them out with the different options you WANT and see what works out best.

I can tell you that 95% of the Rubicon owners don't need, know about or use the options that come on in it. They don't know what a 2 speed transfer case is, Dana 44's or electric sway bar discos, and at no point in their ownership will leave a gravel road to use any of them, much less ever even shift into 4L.

ALL trim levels are perfectly capable 4x4's out of the box. What do YOU want to do with yours?
