Does anyone else have a mod or accessory that they absolutely hate but can't get rid of?

For me, its the Wolfbox TriPro 9000. I bought it because I needed a dash cam and having a rear camera for when I have a camper shell on, it made sense. What I don't like is how the system works. the thing hates the cold (under 20 degrees and its crankier than my knees) the rear camera needs to be unplugged and plugged back in once in a while to make it work but 90% of the time it works. Occasionally it will randomly switch between the camera views and the user interface isn't the greatest, it doesn't have a light sensor so you have to manually dim or brighten the display for day/night. I constantly complain about it but I also won't ditch it. I'm moving it down to the dash so I can have my rear view mirror back. But as much as I hate it, the cameras are useful and I don't want to dump another $300 on a totally new, setup.

Well that sucks!! I have 2 brand new ones to install in each Jeep. Not sure if they're different but mine are the G900 tripro. I noticed your post said tripro 9000. Maybe it's a different model.

same thing. I wasn’t able to find a 9000. Lots of numbers. I haven’t had any real problems with either of mine as far as software. Hardware a little bit. Just use kid gloves when installing the small screws.

At the moment, Badlands 3 ton Jack WITHOUT A MOUNT. It’s the only 1 I have that will reach and feel secure enough off-road. It is absolute hell getting in and out of the jeep though. I’m looking at replacing with one of those jack stand/bottle jack things. Less room taken up and more convenient. Just hope it has the reach and I’ll probably cobble up a stand to make it sit more securely.

Oops typo. WOLFBOX G900 TriPro Bumper. too many zeros. Lots of people seem to like the system. I, on the other hand, don't.

I think I have one that qualifies technically it can be removed but it’s such a pain I’ve only given a couple half heated efforts at it. Rear swing arm spare tire carrier on a steel bumper. I bought the truck with it and it seemed like a cool idea at first. Then I noticed how crazy unstable the tire looked just driving on a gravel road. No matter how many adjustments or tricks I tried it always resulted in me watching for tire movement out the rear window. Now the tire is off but the empty swing arm is still there. They made the cap to the internals to take it apart a nightmare to get into, with a proprietary wrench that will make your hands bleed. Eventually I’ll get it off but it may require more tools I don’t currently have.

I had the same problem with the bottle jack I keep 12ā€ 4x2s under the seat
Solved the problem of height 😊
Use those as a base

Addressing yours first, I have the same one. Because of a temporary rear camera removal for body work, it’s been off a couple of weeks. I found that the screen works great as a rear view mirror if you enable the sleep function. It’s plenty reflective to be a mirror. I’ve had no problems with the rear camera otherwise. I do have the connection inside the tailgate and taped up REALLY well to keep it from moving or getting wet. I disabled the speech option and I no longer have it switch between cameras. It was picking up what I’m guessing are loud ass Jeep noises and misinterpreting them.

My mod that I hate, but need, is the topper. I love how it looks as a truck, and would much prefer a tonneau. But it’s just so useful to be able to put dogs or large items in back without weather exposure or anything falling or blowing out.

I'm going to answer this question slightly differently. We have a 25 Wrangler with the sky one-touch (SOT) top and a 24 Gladiator with a Sunrider top. My wife would say otherwise, but I prefer having the Sunrider over the sky one-touch.

So if the SOT top was a "mod", I'd swap it out for a Sunrider. The SOT is awesome, but unless it's summer, even in SoCal, the kids say its too cold and want their side covered. So most of the time the SOT is open only half-way. It flaps a decent amount at speed. The Sunrider makes much less noise and can handle freeway speeds open. I won't have the SOT open on the freeway.

I use the scissor jack offroad, with a high lift base for the height and stability.

I was thinking a few 2x12 squares to use. I think that would be enough for sand. They’d pull double duty as they’d be to level a cot when I eventually pick up a SWAG.

Molle door pockets. Can't slide the seat forward and still close the door, cant use any of the molle because its right up against the seat when the door is closed, I keep cracking my knee on the corners, but they work good for storing an extra water bottle and to clip my knives to.

100%

Mine has an issue with the rear camera also. After driving in the rain or after a wash it either loses signal or switches to the annoying "Back Up Mode" which I disabled.

I had the same issue with 'rear camera connecting' while driving. I switched the C plug around and found my problem went away. IDK why either. Its a standard C plug. i swapped it two weeks ago and I have not seen the message come back. IDk if the connection is more snug. idk.

I hate the wifi downloading to get videos. my phone drops connection randomly. even with just the wifi on, it drops randomly and i have to start all over.

Could i go back to a glass mirror, yes. Do i want to? No.

I’ve been having second thoughts on my topper too but when I’m camping or it’s raining it’s very nice to have. I’ve been considering buying a gantry crane to pull it off and on when needed.

Mine is a soft topper, so comes completely off in 5 minutes without a crane. Maybe switch to that?
