A mix of both fast and slow here. Along with some damage.

Seen this on YouTube the other day.
I was bored tonight so I actually watched that whole thing.

A few random observations:
  1. The JT actually did quite well compared to the JLUs; I was sure they were going to bash on that drop off @ 15:45 to 18:00.
  2. Cindy wheels like a champ.
  3. You wouldn't catch me standing where some of those spotters/camerapeople were standing.
  4. I'm pretty sure they were trying to break something; impressed no axle shafts were harmed in the making of this video, but I suspect that was the point.
  5. 20:00 to 21:35 was hilarious! :CWL:
  6. The tail light design sucks, as suspected.
  7. Nitto Ridge Grapplers seemed to struggle in that environment.

FWIW the off road+ button in 4Hi optimizes the truck for high speed desert running according to the owners manual so there is definitely development intent for fast raptor like off-roading. Anyone tried it yet? Do JKs/JLs have the button too?

If I get another JT (as in having 2 at the same time) it will now be a Rubicon. Thanks

This place isn't too far from me. Looks fun! I won't be going THAT fast in my JT lol.

This is an awesome video!

So what did we learn?

1. Aired down big tires on 17” wheels rule on the trail.
2. Rock sliders without protruding steps are mandatory.
3. Spotters are a must.
4. Always travel with a buddy or BBG or BWG or just somebody big.
5. Trees don’t like Jeep tail lights.
6. There is a time to go fast and a time to go slow.
7. Sometimes backing up is the best way to go forward.
8. A 3 1/2” lift is not too much lift, in fact, is there such a thing as too much lift on the trail?
9. Bring the equipment and know how to use it.
10. Have fun, stay positive and be proud when you earn trail rash and pin striping.
Re:8. I wonder how much lift is too much for trails like in the video. Seems like too much height quickly ruins your day with low hanging branches, etc hitting your expensive hard top, windshield frame....

Well, with the Mojave coming out now you wont need to go slow

:rock::jk::rock:

Makes me want to

But if it is like the North Edition, it will be even more expensive :crying:

And if it is close to $60k, I may as well stick with my $40k Sport Max Tow and get Dana 60/80 axles instead

If you’ve got the latitude to drop the roughly 16k it will cost between the axles, suspension parts, wheels and tires, why would it matter if the truck costs 60k?

And for reference, how much abuse do you plan on handing out? I’m not throwing rocks at your idea so much as trying to gauge what is the end goal? By way of an aside, many moons back I helped a buddy build what he thought would be a killer street dominator; 502, stupid cam, 1250 carb, 3”mandrel headers blah blah. If it was big he bought it because if a 600cfm carb was great, a 1250 must be amazing. I wasn’t salty enough to know and he had enough cash to afford it. We failed. Badly. The moral of the story is build what you need not what the catalogs sell.

Because for $60k I can get a more durable truck.

Most Rubicons I have come across locally are $55-60k.

I can get a Sport S for under $37k.
Dana/Spicer Elite ProRock XD 60/80 wide axles are $20k
Lockers are $4k
Fox 2.5 Racing Shocks: $1600
Installation costs $2k?

So for just a bit more than a Rubicon or Mojave. I can get the upgraded axles.

As I said: I dream of a truck that can fly down the roads of Baja, King of Hammers, or even better: the mountain trails/logging roads of the Appalachian mountains

Go for it and post. It sounds cool. If you haven’t done this before, I strongly recommend you write out a plan and budget and then double it in both time and money for surprises/issues that come up. Talk to folks that have done this before if you can. Don’t forget suspension, steering, driveshafts, wheels, tires and general repair/welding/fab/gussets and brackets to make this all work. Good luck!

Why do I go slow offroad...

1) I’m enjoying my time on the trail and taking in the views

2) my belly shakes and when your bouncing all day long... it get tiresome.

3) it’s not a race to the end... it’s a means to relax and get away from pavement pounding(I travel long distances for work, offroad is therapy!)

4) I only own one vehicle... need to be able to go without making repairs that take weeks to get parts and work done. (Lots of shops around me have long lead times)

that’s my list. Enjoy your ride.

If that's Redcone, then those are Grays and Torreys. Did you go down Redcone? That's some pretty scary stuff.
I sure did... the down wasn’t too bad, definitely not for the faint at heart but we did radical hill just afterwards... I will not be doing that again! Omg... super butt clinch there!
