My wife traded a BMW X5 for a new Wrangler 4xe. I was hoping she’d get a 3.6 jlu wrangler with the 35s, but she liked the idea of potentially saving gas on her commute to work. Anyways, I think it’s pretty cool that we’re a 2 jeep house, especially since most of the cars in my neighborhood are teslas.

Of course I’ve driven the new jeep. It looks the same as you look out the window obviously, but with the different drive train, well, it’s different. I don’t really feel a power difference that the numbers would suggest, but i guess i really haven’t given the 4xe all the beans…as the kids say. Oddly, it feels heavier than my Gladiator. I know the batteries add weight, but man, my truck feels nimble and light compared to the weight of the 4xe.

All this to offer a service, if you have questions about the 4xe, please feel free to ask. I’ll do my best to answer. Since the Gladiator is supposed to come out with a 4xe option, maybe some of you fellas are curious.

She did get the extended warranty, i think 5 years. And yes, we plan on taking it off road but trail riding, nothing serious. I’d be surprised if anything bigger than the 33s ever get put on it. But we do plan to use it to go camping and light 4wheeling.

Drove a 4xe for bit, I got about 20 miles all city going electric only at about 40-45mph. Did baby it down the road

noted comments re feeling heavier. I’d be interested to know the weight it records on public weigh bridge with a full tank of gas.

I also felt like the stock 3.6 gladiator was nimble and agile enough on test drive. My concern on test drive was the power and tq feeling adequate for unladen status with one person onboard.

I sensed a lack of grunt needed to tow a caravan, equipment and people.

If you do plan on loading it up full of family, equipment and possibly hauling a trailer of some description I’d be very interested to know the performance.

I’m talking about serious family touring work, fully/overloaded and working hard. All the better if inclement or hot weather.

FWIW: my 2020 Glad hard top (stock) full tank, without humans weighed in at 4880lbs. Just under the max tow capacity of my motorhome. The base weight of a 4Xe (either model) exceeds the 5k limit.

The dealer took $11k off the sticker. The high level break down was $8k tax credit and $3k in rebates. I realize that contradicts the $7500 tax credit. I could get into the paperwork if it’s important enough. We bought from a small jeep dealer in the middle of nowhere GA. It was pretty dirty from sitting for a while. There might have been some motivation for them to move it…not sure.

Like others have mentioned, 21 miles is doable if you take it easy and jeep is empty. We did take it out of town this weekend. Loaded it with some stuff, not too heavy, and took off. I got less than 21 miles, but close, like 19, before the battery was drained.

My wife drives to work with the majority of the commute in stop-and-go traffic. 22 miles total. There’s jeep compatible chargers at her work. When she really tries, she can make it there and back no gas. There’s a button where our auto stop button is that turns on and off the one pedal drive. Using that helps recharge the batter during stoping. So…ultimately…21-22 miles is doable…but it depends.

Yeah! I totally agree with everything you’re saying. Like I mentioned, I would have liked for her to get the 3.6 jlu. So it will be interesting to see how it performs as we move forward. On the day-to-day, I feel she meets that niche, but how will it look when we’re putting our camping plans to work?? Hopefully we find out soon.

Plus, I still have my Gladiator…so everything will be just fine!

rubicons and mojave with automatics and no other options are already 4935lb and 4929lbs respectively. My mojave showed up after being built (mojave hardtop, aux switches, tow package, wheel locks, and nothing else) with a 6140 GVWR and 1085# of payload left meaning it sits on the curb at 5055 from the factory. Wouldn't be flat towable by you unless it had a quarter gas tank.

Don't need a 4xe to get heavy.

I had a wrangler 4xe as a rental last week. I drove it around in hybrid mode all week because the rental company I guess never charged it and I had no means or charging it myself. In hybrid mode it got 22 mpg in mixed driving. The battery still charges and discharges in hybrid mode….my favorite thing about it was a really responsive throttle and lots of torque so accelerating was fun! My least favorite thing about it was all the things that could go wrong with so much relatively new tech.

We have one and drive it usually in Electric mode. Get 25-27 miles on battery alone. It is charged at work and at home. Running in electric mode only will not have the horsepower you get in hybrid mode. Last year we put 8k miles on ours on 5 tanks of gas. If yu drive on battery all time you will be forced in run on gas every 2k miles. It is called Form "Fuel Oil Refresh Mode".There is a great facebook group for the 4xe's.
