I did my first oil change on July 4th and collected a sample to send in to Blackstone Labs for analysis.
The results were emailed to me yesterday. My concern was that because I get a periodic cylinder 5 misfire that there may be some issues beyond fuel and spark.
This report seems to convey that there is no abnormal wear.
I was waiting for this before taking the truck in for a Star Case to address the misfire and get the recall flash.

nice to see you change it at 5,000 many wait until 7,500-10,000, not me, I do every 4,000 regardless.

I wanted to get this sample done, and I don't drive a lot of miles on this truck, so I'll probably always do 5k on this one. I go 10k on my daily.

Watch your iron levels. 44 is high if it stays there through your future oil changes. That number needs to be around 10-15ppm. If it stays at 44, give or take, expect one of those camshaft replacement jobs in your future. Just don’t be surprised.

My iron levels were in that 40 range, misfired at 16k kms then after the next couple UOA’s, levels dropped to 22ppm. Here’s my UOA on the iron:

Oil change(kms)/iron levels
-1000/36ppm
-10k kms/48ppm
-16k kms/40ppm -camshaft replacement misfire repair.
-16,800k/48ppm (changed oil very soon after because top of engine sat open with rags on it out in the dealership lot for 50 days.
-20k/22ppm
-30k/28ppm

My 3.6 engine has been consuming 10-12ounces of coolant every oil change since new. (Probably effects the iron counts too)

I'd rather be safe than sorry, nobody actually knows what's ideal, it's all a guessing game, that's why there's an every 5,000-7,500 or 7,500-10,000?

See the initial post. I don’t think I’ve ever seen oil analysis that would indicate that the average passenger vehicle oil change should occur ~4,000 miles.

At the end of the day though, you do you.

I’ve also taken note of those that have posted great UOA (iron levels) and not experienced misfires or needed that camshaft replacement. It would seem to me that high iron counts and misfires needing cam replacement go hand in hand. There’s also belief that if one side goes out, the other cam may need it later too.

Definitely, and thank you for leading me to the oil analysis folks at Blackstone.

At $35 for 5 quarts Mobil 1 AFE and a filter, you're spending .7 of a cent a mile on oil. Going with 7.5k oil changes, you're spending a .47of a cent/mile.

Changing your oil early only costs .23 of a cent per mile. Let's say you keep your truck for 125k miles (longest ESP Mopar offers), that's $287.50 over the course of 125k miles "wasted" on early oil changes. Otherwise known as less than one car payment.

Let's say you're approaching 125k miles on your JT and you're considering trading it in. Any chance the fact that you know you babied it might convince you to keep it for an extra couple of months? Congrats, your "wasted" $287.50 just paid for itself.
