Looks very nice. BTW, is that a spur I see dangling in the upper right corner of picture #1?
The spur was my Dad's. He was a manual transmission guy and a horse guy. Every damn truck he owned had a set of spurs around the stick. I was able to get one of his spurs and it's usually on the shifter, I put it on the grab handle temporary for the pics so I could show the shifter better. Just stupid sentimental crap, I idolized that guy, the spur makes me feel good, gives me positive thoughts and memories. I miss that dude.

I think that is really cool that you do that.
A manual tranny fella and a horse lover...... He was definitely a man after my own heart!!
Keep up the tradition and great for you that you have such fine memories.

Added the B&M shifter. Was able to get the transfer case nob without buying the whole enchilada with the dog leg. A little backyard engineering and she is rock solid. I personally don't like that dog leg, just couldn't do that thing. Truck is dirty but I'm stoked so I'm shooting off these pics.

That's pretty badass, if I'm seeing it right, does it still have the same spring mechanism under the shifter for reverse?

That is just awesome. I hope my kids feel that way about me one day and have some sort of way to remember me like that. I dunno what it would be other than maybe some Jeep crap. I've taken them on many an adventure all over the country in our Jeeps. Lol.

I'm not reading 171 pages, but how do 4.88 gears do with the MT? Thinking about going up to 35s and may tow a 6x12 enclosed trailers on occasion.

I'm not reading 171 pages, but how do 4.88 gears do with the MT? Thinking about going up to 35s and may tow a 6x12 enclosed trailers on occasion.
4.88 and 5.13 are popular options for 37s. Take a look.

got Centerforce upgraded hydraulics delivered. Going to get an installer to put them in (no time and its a PIA to bleed a clutch). I'll report back after install

Hey Brian, I just rewatched the video you and Blake did on the gear comparison. My OEM tires are almost worn out. I need to make my 4:88 vs 5:13 decision soon. The video shows the RPMs are pretty close, I realize that there are a ton of factors but overall did you and Blake discuss MGPs? Is it close or does Blake get significantly better mileage? What are you averaging in town and on the Hwy with those 37s and 5:13?

Not sure on mpgs Blake is getting. I just got back from a 5,600 mile trip from PA to Yellowstone and back. I’m really glad I had 5.13 gears and there were places where I wished I had 5.38 gears in the mountains when I was struggling in 3rd to maintain speed. I averaged about 15.8mpg on the trip, calculated by hand (display showed 16.1mpg). There were times when I was getting 12-13mpg, ironically in flat places - combo of 80plus mph and high ethanol content. Some of my best mileage (about 18mpgs) was in and around Yellowstone on 91 octane ethanol free gas on 2 lane roads at 50mph.
I normally average about 13-14mpg on hilly PA back roads and short trips.
I worried about 5.13s when I was choosing but I went with them because I offroad and tow. Glad I went 5.13. Good luck.

When you say stock clutch is weak, is that mainly for offroad performance or does Centerforce give us better (quicker?) shifting on the road as well? I have seen posts on Centerforce clutches and people seem happy with them. I was planning on swapping clutches when warranty expires, but i'm a little worried the stock clutch may torch my Gladys before the warranty is up. So what does Centerforce (clutch and hydraulics) give is exactly? Quicker shifting? Non-flammable shifting? And why isn't Jeep paying for this?

The stock clutch slips and burns /smells -especially when backing a trailer and sometimes when crawling off road. The Centerforce clutch is not any faster or smoother - it’s just a lot beefier. It holds and goes, where the stock clutch and light flywheel sputter.

In the old days, it could take a full second or two to start the engine, then the electronics would stabilize, then you'd keep the engine on until you were done driving.

Now, the government essentially forces the use of engine start/stop, which needs a lightweight flywheel so the engine can restart quickly without overloading the starter, and the ESS battery to keep the electronics stable during restart. And it could be 10-20 times more restarts than in the older days, depending on where you are driving.

If you get a heavier flywheel, it's probably a good idea to turn off ESS.

Never considered this aspect, but it's a great thought. I typically use ESS because it doesn't bother me at all with the MT but I might have to start turning it off when I reclutch.
