Have you ever
Those are modern terms to make people feel better, recently defined. This mechanic is a troubleshooter that will run circles around most "techs". It's a feel good word. Makes the customer feel better
Have you ever worked in the automotive industry......if not you making some bold assumptions and working in sales doesn't count

If a tech spends an hour on diagnosis he gets paid for an hour.

If a tech spends an hour changing a part where the book time to change the part is 1.6 hours, he gets paid for 1.6 hours

Techs are paid more to change parts than they are to diagnose problems.

I don't have your experience, but when I was younger I worked my way up at a local Saab/Subaru dealership working as parts driver, parts counter, service writer, technician, salesman, F&I.

So I know how things work.
You're spot on

I have the TSMs... And the ASE study guide says 3 to 10 depending on engine. All I have worked with, mopar, amc, ford etc ran 10 typically.

The dealership closest to me literally told me that they couldn’t/wouldn’t fix my “service 4wd light” because there isn’t an error code in the computer. I paused for a second and asked him “Are you saying that you don’t know how to fix it because there’s not an error code showing to read?” He said yes very matter of fact like that’s an acceptable answer.

This was while the service 4wd light was literally on in the dash and they gave it back to me with the light on.
Da fuck???

You must be new here lmao. @ShadowsPapa has been turning wrenches for many a years and from what I can tell doing “tech” work just as long. Or did I take that out of context?? Some things get lost in text lol

Oil light on means hit the stop button post haste. Too many sit and wonder what to do or assume they have time. Nog saying that happened here but even 2 or 3 seconds with no op is bad news.
Not a viable option when doing 70 mph on the highway in rush hour........it's a you're F'd situation. Might be an option while in that parking still at the dealer.

Context ....who knows

New here........nope

I've been wrenching for over 30 years, so I can smell BS a mile away. If ones defense is "you're using those new terms" well that a clear sign of an old mechanic trying to flex, but they're obsolete.

Not here to start shit, just sticking to facts.

If you're not well versed on the new systems......it's time to step aside. Comparing service intervals on new cars to old ones now is again irrelevant. Yeah an old 350 could run 2 quarts low and go 1000's of miles. But, lets talk about the tolerances from a gen 2 small block to a new 3.6 dual OHC motor is silly; apples and oranges at best

If the engine is toast, they'll give you a new motor. I wouldn't panic yet. As long as they are making things right.
Any reputable shop would make this right. An dealerships, while I'm not a fan of using them for maintenance since they're overpriced, will usually do the right thing in these circumstances without needing to push them.

Change your oil yourselves people. EFF ' fReE JeEP WaVe oil chANges'.

The Gladiator is the easiest oil change I've experienced in my 47 years. The filter element is on top. ON TOP!!!! Zero leakage! No filter wrench!!!

Underneath? The truck is high enough no lifts are needed....no ramps.

The fill? A 5 quart bottle! So easy!!@

Stop letting orcs service your Jeep. Use the 'warranty' for catastrophic shit...engine failure
..trans failure.... radio breaks....

Good God don't let these idiots touch your truck unless absolutely necessary.

I agree. I think that most mechanics or techs(lol) overtighten the oil filter cap. My opinion is that could lead to oil cooler failure down the road.

Glad they gave you a loaner.

Today marks 5 months my gladiator has been in the shop for repair after a relatively small collision.

Supposedly I'll be getting it back by the end of next week.
Damn man hoping for the best for you. Mine has been in the shop for 2.5 months now, eta is roughly 3 weeks for me.

New rear suspension, body work, new axle housing, driver axle, and a few other items.

What was fucked on yours that is taking so long?

Update - picking up the truck today. But I am skeptical it is fixed correctly. They changed the alternator. I asked about the knock they reported to me last week and was told it does not have a knock any more and the alternator fixed that problem!

I have never heard of an alternator fixing a knock. I did not talk to the mechanic (tech or whatever you want to call them) but to the check in person (not sure what her job title is). So not sure how reliable this information is.

Years ago, my father in law, a mechanic, used to put sawdust in the oil pan to disguise a knock (it was a short term "fix"). He was a crook.

On these current vehicles I have no idea if there is a way to disguise a big issue for the short term.

Any thoughts.
