Guess I shouldn’t have forced it (steering).

Here is your fix https://westtexasoffroad.com/

You can buy a new box from them and have them ship you everything you need for hydro assist. Ship your old box back and you're less than $1000 into it and won't have to worry about not being able to steer offroad.

Steering box. Take a pry bar under the ball joint of the pitman arm and pry up. If the end of the arm moves up. You found your problem.
Yeah. It’s pretty likely. I haven’t seen any reports of the steel ones failing, but I’m pretty sure it did. Have you replaced one? How bad is the job?

Thanks. I may give them a call. Do you have this system? Can you share some pictures of it installed?

My guess is ball joint somewhere from pitman/drag link to driver side tie rod and anywhere between... maybe more than one.

I've replaced steering boxes on other vehicles, but not on a JT. It depends on how much room you have to work with on how easy it is.

That's not a steering stabilizer issue. A steering stabilizer isn't going to cause play in your steering wheel if it gets damaged it's just going to make you feel the road more in the steering. Sounds like you either have a damaged drag link end or something in the steering box.

Check for play at the steering knuckles on front axle, especially if aluminum (Rubicon Dana 44’s). May have oblonged the ball joint seats/holes.

Depending on your problem, PSC makes a great replacement steering box along with kit to increase power from stock electric system. Ram assist can be added depending on your need. Traditional hydraulic kits are available depending on which engine you have.

It’s definitely either the drag link end near the pitman arm or the gear box.

definitely not the knuckles.

100% your steering box has an issue the sector shaft is dropping as it rotates. No good.
I have the same issue as of a week ago or so. It’s either the drag link end where it connects to the pitman arm, or the gearbox. I’m going to be unhappy if it’s the gearbox, as no dealer is going to replace it under warranty with all my aftermarket steering parts.
