I am looking to improve the sound quality in my Mojave. I haven't upgraded a stereo since college. So I'll be paying for the install rather than weekending it. I currently have the bottom end system without a subwoofer. I listened to the Macintosh in a Wagoneer at a car show and that's the sound quality I would like to attain/shoot for. If possible, I would prefer the subs behind the rear seats. Does this type of an upgrade mandate a headunit replacement? or just speakers amps and subs? Suggestion?

Stinger Heigh10 head unit. Replace all dash, knee and soundbar speakers with brand of your choice. 6ch amp like Audio Control LC6.1200 for front dash, knee mids, and soundbar. Underseat sub like Kicker L7T with dedicated amp.

1st realize that your Gladiator may not sound like the Grand Wagoneer. Let's just say we don't have the sound deadening that behemoth has. There are some great head units out there especially if you do not need it for the screen to be over 7 inches. If that's the case, I personally like the Kenwood Excelon series. If want a bigger screen your options are Stinger Heigh10, Insane Audio JL4001, the Alpine units (extremely expensive), and a couple of Android units. On this forum, you'll find good and bad about all of them. Along with that an upgrade of the speakers, if you want that Macintosh sound probably going to prefer the Focal over the Kicker speakers. You will also need an amp especially when you remove the Freedom Tops. Good Luck

I think the ultimate success here will come from a dealer and installer who has specific experience with the Gladiator who has found the right combination of equipment and who has the ears to actually know they have arrived. There has been some good information posted in the Jeep forums on stereo/speaker upgrades but until you sit in the vehicles that have been upgraded to hear them with your own ears, you don't really know what you will get.

I hope you can find a local dealer that meets your expectations.

Has anyone seen a sub enclosure that sits behind the rear seat instead of under it?

You're gonna want your system tuned, so it's more than just quality speakers/subs/amps. I'm partial to Focal and JL. I'd throw in a dsp like a Hertz H8 to tune it correctly. But you should be ready to drop some real coin into it at this point.

i'd first look at adding sound deadner to the roof and then the floor and maybe the doors.

then I'd work on the stereo end and whatever speakers & sub you choose. for sure if you've gone that far then have it tuned.

Kicker HS10 fits behind the drivers side rear seat. I wasn’t impressed with the HS10, didn’t provide anything over the factory sub. Feed 500W to a 10” Kicker L7T and it pounds. Fits nicely under the passenger rear seat.

The 7” head unit and speakers in the base system are pure garbage. There is nothing worth saving in the base system in my opinion. The 8.4 head unit is better, but even the alpine speakers included with the option are only a marginal upgrade.

Yes, tuning with a reference mic in the drivers seat or having a DSP auto EQ unit can make a huge difference. You don't really know what you have without trained ears and a reference mic and audio spectrum analyzer listening while playing pink noise through the system will reveal a lot.

I did not install this specific kit but I basically pieced together three separate Alpine upgrades that is basically the same.

The video says "if you have the Alpine premium audio system upgrade this will not fit". I have that. Bummer dude.

Before you spend thousands on a sound system upgrade, you might want to consider putting sound deadening strip and insulation on the freedom panels and on the floor. Hothead liners paired with their sound assassin strips on the floor and ceiling should help a ton.
