I remember reading some where where the former head of Jeep was asked about the 2.0L/hybrid combination for the Gladiator and he said that it just wasn’t up to the hauling and towing that would be expected with the Gladiator.

I really hope they substitute a better engine combination than the 2.0/hybrid…

Customers residing in the 14 states adopting CARB regulations will no longer have access to engine options such as the 3.6-liter V-6, the 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder turbo, or the 6.4-liter V-8. Instead, they will only be able to purchase the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder paired with an electric motor and a small battery found in the Wrangler 4xe. While customers have the option to special order a Wrangler with a different engine, the wait times for such orders have been known to extend from weeks to months and even years.

The Prius has been around for 25 years now, it's not like this is a new concept. The batteries are easy to repair and replace, and the older used ones seem to have no problem selling.

I guess if you drive your Gladiator like a “Prius” or “Leaf” the battery might last. For me I use my Gladiator off-roading, the diesel is a no brainer for me. The amount of batteries it will require to replace all these EV the government is forcing on us now will be interesting.

Not enough dirty jeeps out their working. How could they justify ICE on what is used likely 90% or more as a status toy in urban environments. Actual hobbyist, off-roaders and those that truly work their trucks are an exception but for most, it’s just a shiny thing to decorate. Not a popular thing to say, I know, but my point is I don’t think Jeep really had a chance to retain ICE exclusive options for much longer. They are toys with little actual practical usage. Sucks.

I think the diesel jeeps will hold value just due to rarity. The modern gas ones will be dime a dozen for the next 20 years until they are in the scrapyard or outlawed.

Sure, I'll start a rumor. 2024 JTs will only come with the 3.0L Diesel.

I think the diesel jeeps will hold value just due to rarity. The modern gas ones will be dime a dozen for the next 20 years until they are in the scrapyard or outlawed.

What does "Hold their value" really mean? More than what I paid for it after a year? 5% less in value after a year?

I would consider all those scenarios as holding their value. It's not going to be worth $80k in 5 years because "EVs bad!", but they will likely be worth quite a bit more than the gas ones available. I expect the same thing for the baby duramax trucks. The people that bought these will likely take care of them, and the people that want a small diesel truck in 5-10 years will be willing to pay decent money for one.

Hell, people around me pay new Rubicon money for 25 year old Japanese diesels all the time. The gas versions are going for half that.

It's possible but Pre-def/emissions million mile diesels =/= post def poor reputation (right or wrongly so) diesels. If this was pre-def/emissions diesel I'd be in a diesel too.

Will the government outlaw, locomotives, Semi trucks, mining equipment.? IMO they will just stop making combustion engines (for a while) I don’t think they will be “outlawed”.

Technology advances exponentially. If you think 2043 will look anything like 2023, your head is in the sand. Back in 2003, sending a photo over text was the new crazy technology, and you would have been using your dial up modem to view this site (very slowly). ?

I think your “Electric Utopia” dream will fall flat. Just my opinion. From my understanding battery technology is almost as advanced as physics will allow.
