Here's an interesting look at the 4xe from a guy who ones a JL diesel. He's in California so his frame of reference is $5.xx / gallon gas and $.30 / KWh electricity.

Wrangler 4xe review
It was a good watch.......... I'm older and grew up with ICE, so for me, I'm not against EV's.......... but I don't really get spending the premium money on a half n half. Either do one or do the other, and maximize the efficiencies that either one has to offer. The Hybrid doesn't really do either one well separately, so it's really just a short distance vehicle to be able to use both simultaneously.

That was my take on the 4XE - Jack of all trades master of none.

That's the point of it though, it's just a better version of the v6/i4 gas wrangler. More power, better city mpg, about the same highway. Only downside is more "complexity" and about 600 pounds of weight.(I am not including price since there are rebates to bring it back to basically even for comparably equipped jeeps)

The diesel has the niche that diesel has always had, long range good torque.

The Achilles heal is the payload - 900# in Rubicon trim.

It will be interesting when the Cyber Truck comes out if it has the longer range than what’s out there now. It could be a revolution in the truck market.

All of the wranglers have the same 850lb states payload actually
Interesting - I could have sworn the payload was 1200-ish on the V6. Well never mind then…

The wrangler is kept artificially low, the gvwr and the stated payload are actually different for them crazily. Basically jeep rated the 4xe only high enough to clear their 850 lb stated limit

Edit: What's really crazy is that the higher gvwr of the 4xe comes from nothing other than them changing the sticker on the door since the only real difference is the 4xe getting gladiator rubicon axles but the regular axles have plenty of gawr. Talk about just plain up proving the gvwr is fictitious.

Pretty much where I'm at. Pure EVs have a lot going for them and get better every year. If you've ever driven a Tesla, the performance is crazy. And range is constantly getting better. Hybrids like the 4XE are just a temporary kludge.

All these electric vehicles being rushed out of car manufacturers is going to be interesting in 10 years. How many will still have a battery that works. My bet you won’t be able to give them away IMO

The guy that comes up with a system to rejuvenate/replace tired cells on all those used EVs will be a billionaire.

I would bet that it would sell, too. A Mojave with a Sky One Touch and Hurricane would be downright perfect for me.
I’ll agree, but make it a Rubicon with Mojave suspension and those options. I believe we may see the patented modular hard top next year instead of the sky one touch though.

Not to split hairs but I'd rather have a Hurricane powered Mojave with its frame reinforcements, stronger knuckles and suspension with the Rubicon's locking front and steel bumpers (with the bed/quarter rail). It would be the perfect all around JT- able to handle any trail and still be compliant enough to drive around town as a daily. The JTM we rented in March in California was pretty well configured but the weight was noticeable.

Personally, the modular doesn't really change much for me, I'd be adding a SportCap or similar with an iKamper 3.0 and outfitting like our rental JTM was in March. The RTT overhangs the back portion of the hard top so removal becomes moot. Front panels can still come off (and do to assist with tucking the tent in) in that configuration.

The Prius has been around for 25 years now, it's not like this is a new concept. The batteries are easy to repair and replace, and the older used ones seem to have no problem selling.

I have a ten year old Nissan Leaf with a battery pack that is almost six years old. It is still good for about 85% of its original range. I don't use it as much, since most of my driving is work related, but it's great for doctors appointments and basic errands.

It is expected that the 2024 model will say farewell to the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 in favor of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system similar to the Wrangler 4xe. You can expect that system to adopt the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine integrated with two electric motors and a 400-volt battery pack, giving the Gladiator somewhere around 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque combined.
And there goes any logical towing! I gotta be honest, I really thought they would combine it with the 3.6L motor. If this were to be true I’m really intrigued to see how they tackle the towing capability.
