I told them, " it's when one dude is into another dude with a jeep". If you keep a bunch of ducks on your dash then youre into alot of dudes, not just one.

Edit to clarify: I don't partake in the ducking with anyone regardless of gender. I think it could be a sign of the apocalypse.

Spent 10 years in the military... drove a real one once and rode in my first one with my father and Santa at 6... he was also military. That was around 1980ish. Loved them ever since.

Was finally able to afford one in 2016. Nissan dealership had a 2015 Rubi Hard Rock mismarked.... 12k below KBB... i got them down 2k more. Dumba**@@!
Only paid 30k.

Now... I have a 2023 Gladiator Rubicon....

Last two kids are 3 and 5... keeping them involved is important to me... they love to look for other Jeeps and they do the ducking. My eldest was with the little ones one day, she's 27... now she's hooked.

Now my son wants to go camping in the Jeep after seeing some of the Overland setups. My goal is to keep them off of poles and drugs... ducking seems to be a great way to pique their interest and keep them involved!

I got ducked for the first time a couple of days ago, but in my 94 YJ. It would look stock to someone who doesn't know YJs well. (It actually has a mild suspension lift, shackles and urethane bushings that can be greased, lowered transfer case, Yukon 3.73 gears, sway bar disconnects, Edelbrock shocks, 30" ATs.) I guess I shouldn't be surprised. On the YJ forum I'm on, lots of people seem to be trying to unlift their lifted YJs by putting stock height leaf springs back on. How things do come around...

Late to the party on this fringe subject.
Yeah not the most macho thing on this planet that’s ok.
I only have been “ducked” once. Owned this rig since September 2019. It’s nothing special just an Overland.
I like the duck aspect in the same way I like my KC highlight covers. A little smiley face on them , I have kids point and smile at the spotlight on my rollhoop. If it makes some one smile especially the kids what’s the harm. I bought a small bag bunch of ducks off Amazon just to leave on a Jeep in the hopes its occupants includes a child. Kids need a smile in this crazy world.
Cheers all.

It’s a social experiment and basically we can now classify people by what duck category they fall into.

  1. People who buy ducks, display ducks and give away ducks
  2. People who vaguely knew about ducks or googled it after receiving a duck, said okay whatever, threw it on their dashboard and went on with life. Sometimes these people become number ones out of boredom, having children or just wanting to participate in something silly.
  3. People who don’t care about receiving or giving ducks. These people are said to “not give a duck.”
  4. People who say “they don’t care about ducks” but clearly care enough about ducks to take the time to tell people they don’t care about ducks whenever they get the chance.
  5. Those who have no idea that there’s a Jeep/duck thing. We call them normal people.
  6. People who are angered by receipt of a duck. These people have issues to work out, maybe need a hug or just more ducks.
  7. People who don’t live in the most prosperous country on earth where people can afford to buy rubber ducks to give to people and would be happy to have a real duck just to eat.
  8. The truly deranged who buy 3d printed duck landing pads for their Jeep. Avoid these nutters at all costs. Although there’s a small chance these people aren’t insane and have just turned their life into a piece of kaufmanesque performance art to entertain themselves. It’s hard to tell. https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...-admin-warning-no-politics.23705/post-1186399

Shift Happens is spot on. Just a person’s way of trying to spread a little cheer after gutting cussed out, and told to go back to her own country. (Happened in Canada, where she was born, and visiting family). I’ve received a few ducks, and they live in my console. I got a smile when I found them, but don’t like the clutter on my dash. I’m not going around placing them on other Jeeps, but, if folks want to do that, I’m cool with it. Now, if someone wants to place a few Fosters Ales on mine, I’ll definitely take them…….

I'm an old man and I enjoy them. I duck Jeeps that have been modified and if they already have a duck or 2 on the dash. Heavily modified Jeeps with no ducks signal to me that they don't want them. Stock Jeeps don't get ducked. A few years ago, when Hot Wheels were making Gladiators, I would buy up every one that I could find and then give them to JTs that matched whatever color I happened to have. Those were accepted happily. Life is too short to get upset over someone's attempt to spread happiness.

Don't assume that those with heavily modified Jeeps don't want them. Many of those are not daily drivers and don't get out to places where they might be ducked. My JK is what you would call heavily modified and it is only driven around town when the Gladiator is unavailable. It gets trailered to the trail. Until this weekend, I only had one duck, which I was handed at the Outpost at Uwharrie by a small child as I was getting my trail pass. I'm indifferent to the craze but his eyes lit up as he gave me the duck. I keep it in the Jeep because it made me happy that he was happy.

Now this last Saturday, I got 4 more ducks at a local Jeep event. It made others happy to give them out, it doesn't cost me anything to keep them or to pass them along to someone else.

New to jeep as of a week ago. I had no idea there was a wave or this duck thing. Okey doke. I just use mine to get closer to fishing put-ins, fishing holes, and hauling. stuff.

My wife loves ducks and used to have ducks as pets when we had a farm. There are about 6 ducks on my truck dash (ugh) and 2 on her Mail jeep dash. I was told to leave the ducks alone.
I'm the boss of my truck. She almost agrees.

Like others have said if it puts a smile on some ones face
why not. In this fked up new world we live in we all need something to smile about.
The best duck I gave out was waiting at MCDS looked over and a little girl was smiling and pointing at my jt. I nicely asked her father if she could have one. Her giggle and smile when I handed it to her. Made my day.

I'm not a fan of the duck thing. I'd much rather you kept your ducking hands of my ducking vehicle.

I prefer an uncluttered interior and don't like pamphlets, menus, business cards or anything else being left on my car. More people need to live by the "don't touch stuff that doesn't belong to you" rule.

Those who hate the duck thing apparently have anatidaephobia.
It is described as the irrational fear of ducks or water fowl.

For some Jeep people, instead of confronting it, they tell people to keep their ducks to themselves.

Jeep Gladiator My co-workers are asking "what are them ducks for in jeeps" 1698810639188

Other symptoms - telling people to keep their ducks off my Jeep, trash talking anyone who tries to duck a jeep or talking down about those who happen to have ducks on their dash.

I suspect that this is the root of people not wanting to be "ducked", and others hiding them away. It's an irrational fear - no duck can possibly harm you. No mass shootings have ever been instigated by a duck, I know of no duck who has ever sabotaged a Jeep, cut brake lines or let the air out of tires. They don't suck the breath out of babies, so are safe around children.

On the other hand, get too many of them together, it could be risky...........

Maybe having a line of ducks on your dash isn't so safe after-all........
