I keep lucking out with awesome priced take-offs. This time, rear steel factory bumper off a '23 JT, with bed rock rails, frame supports and tow hooks for $200. I had been wanting to replace the factory plastic with the steel unit for quite a while, but to get everything, out the door pricing would have been $1400+. I have the euro rear fog lights that I modded back in March '20, so it actually took longer to move the wiring harness over to the new bumper, than it did to actually install the new bumper and brackets.

Tried to install my builtright beside Molle panels and realized the previous owner had only managed to truly tighten 1-2 bolts on each rail of my trail rail. Enough to keep it in place but the rest of the bolts were only 50-75% of the way and all of them were completely stripped. So my quick 1 hour project is now on day 2 currently finishing drilling and extracting them in between kid duties. I’m sure it’s bed liner in there so once I get them out I will clean them up and finally install everything.

In the meantime, added a little orange back to my front end so I felt like I at least did something.

Looking
Quoting my previous post - confirmed with the road department today the local pass between me and idao is 100% pure rock salt. Missoula is 80% rock salt. My little town varies somewhere between there and 50% magchloride - which is basically a salt brine.

So...what's a guy to do? Will my Gladiator survive then ext 15 years? Or do I need to go spend 10K on a beater truck for the 9 months of winter.....and only use the gladiator 3 months out of a year.

Really not happy about this. Maybe them plow trucks will start breaking down.
Have you considered undercoating it with Fluid Film? You can do it yourself or find a service. Or Krown.

i am considering fluid film now. I might actually have some in the basement. The first thing I did when I got it was do a internal frame coating with 3m cavity wax and 4 external frame and under body coats of amsoil hd metal protect. I think that is plenty good for lower levels of mag chloride. But since i know they are using straight up rock salt now I might add fluid film as well. I really dont want to since that stuff is super nasty.

i wish they just would not use anything other than sand. Or buy me a new vehicle every 5 years. Its BS they use stuff known to quickly degrade vehicles especially when theyre so expensive.

Big Salt is in collusion with Big Auto.

Sounds like the best option would be to get a beater. Which sucks, as it's another financial burden brought on by things we can't talk about here.

yeah and not only that that means really only 3 months of driving the Jt. Kinda makes it almost pointless.

So I bought my first Jeep a few weeks ago. So far I am loving it. Have done a few things but nothing major.

Installed a front and rear dash cam

Installed a bed mat, recovery strap and drivers side molle panel. I know its a truck and I will use it for truck things but I had a hard time with the idea of drilling holes in the bed of my brand new truck to attach the bottom of the molle panel. So I tried something different. Ordered some small magnets with countersunk holes to attach to the bottom. These things are surprisingly strong and rated at 110 lb of pull force. If I pull hard enough they will detach from the bed side but I don't see that being an issue because nothing will be putting out from the bed side. Pretty happy with the outcome and didn't have to drill holes. :)

Spray on canola oil. Canada Oil developed an oil from rape seed in WW2 to fight corrosion on military vehicles. That’s were the name “canola” comes from. (I think someone posted that here earlier, or it may have been a JK forum)

I’m going to try it this year. Normally our winters start in early October and my JK has all kinds of rust under it. I’d like to keep that from happening to my gladiator.

if you do get rust, I’ve had good results with Eastman’s rust encapsulator on my JK.

It's a Viofo A129 Plus Duo. I also got the wiring harness to wire into the auxiliary wires under the passenger side dash. It comes on when my truck is cranked and then it will record while the truck is off when it detects movement. So far I've been pleased with it. Managed to get all the wiring tucked away and out of sight.

I'll let you know by Spring. If I don't see any bears I'll drive it through the local bear park. The bear park has pens you drive through with Black Bears and Grey Wolves. I can also try it with the local Bison.
