It's not just tire size and speed rating, you also have to check your bearings. I have a little motorcycle trailer and on long hauls at highway speed those bearings get hot. I have to stop and let them cool pretty regularly, even with fresh grease.

I guess all I can say is when I researched the best towing option to replace my JKU that was struggling to tow the gas sport s with basic tow package was more than enough, now my wife made us buy a pop-up that’s heavier than what we were towing and it’s still plenty capable. It is what it is and it’s not a towing powerhouse.

Very similar to a trailer I'd had in the past. 14x7, that rear ramp was 4 foot or so tall.

Removing the rear ramp made a difference in towing mpg when empty or hauling 2 motorcycles. That was behind my 2015 Ram 2500 Cummins.

Frontal area of the trailer is important.

I''d love a ramp trailer for the bikes, but I think I need to learn some fabrication and welding. I want to make a bi-fold ramp that is smaller in the raised position to reduce wind resistance.

I have that, the PO had the trailer people cut the ramp in half added some hinges and tabs to fold and stay in place.

Yep, that's exactly what I have in mind - or maybe I just get an enclosed trailer and keep all my track crap in there and clear some space in the garage.

No need to do that.

I am working a deal on a 4th gen PW.

Flash sale on my aftermarkets parts incoming.. likely. (see build thread, post 1 for detailed list).

Pretty much everything except, the lift and wheels will be up for grabs. Heavy stuff, pickup only.

Dammit, stop tempting me. I might have to take you up on that.

Good luck working that deal, I hope you get a screaming deal. Remember Stellantis sales are down the dealers are hurting - put the screws to 'em.

LOL I got a line of folks at the shop wanting me to cut them a deal too.

I'm looking at a 4th gen, I like the aesthetic vs the current 5th gen for some reason and having driven both, they are more old school truck vs a big capable boat.. like a bigger JT with some extra comfort features.

A 4G PW has the same front suspension as the JT only beefier It's a 5 link. Plus leaf spring rear. The 4.5G and 5G PW's have a 3 link front. The rear is the same as the JT, only beefier.

I’m looking at a 2018, literally same radio and everything. The JT feels like the engineers said “honey we shrunk the power wagon”.

Do you still have yours?

Sadly.......no. I traded it in for the JT. Mother Natural decided that she would put a 9"x4" rust hole under the driver's seat area under the cab. I had Carli control arms and track bar on it. Plus Thuren front springs and shackles on the leaf springs. Thuren custom tuned King shocks. 37" Toyo MT tires on forged Centerline rims. Which you can't get now. I miss that truck.

That's a pretty true statement.
My JT Rubicon Diesel reminds me alot of a smaller version of my 2015 Ram 2500 Cummins. Just wish the JT had as comfortable seats as my Cummins did. Wish the JT had the hp/tq that the Cummins had, LOL!!!

It’s amazing to me how easily the JT handles 37’s under it, regardless of trim. With a small lift it even looks proportional.

Test drove a 5th gen PW on 37’s.. felt like it was lifted to the moon to get to fit those under there.

Dealer finished their inspections and recon, finally got to test drive it. I’m 50/50.

This is a great candidate as a replacement, but driving it today, there is no mistaking that this is an HD truck. Not quite as nimble as any of the 5.7 hemi 1500’s. Still not 100% sure what I was expecting, but here I am.
