My experience says yes since I have larger tires and more weight in my auto and get better mileage than my wife's. I understand there are differences in driving, but I do not think those differences explain the mileage difference.
I suppose if there is 5 mpg difference or more, driving style would seem to be within 1-2 mpg margin.

These things are 100% based on take rates and profit margins.

Manual JL/JT transmission take rates are single digits.

Same as everyone claims to want a basic truck, but won't buy something with roll up windows or not 4 doors, or a soft top, or whatever.

Internet opinion vs real life is wildly different.

The production line costs to swap drivetrains is not insignificant. The more they homogenize, the less time the line is down and the more they produce. It's the same reason they didn't do an extended cab like everyone else that would require a second bed and rear cab section.

And for every 10,000 commenters crying they'd totally buy a 2 door, they already know JL take rate is like 8%. JT would be worse, so there's no point.

I'll say the same thing I say to the Toyota guys because it applies all the same... everyone says they want a 2-door JT or a 70 series LC, but what they really mean is they want to buy a clean one with 80k on the clock at half the price a few years down the line. Nobody wants to pay full-size prices for a midsize to buy new.

I feel like the manual is a lot of the same, except it's a bunch of people who hate all the new tech for the same reason and would rather buy an older Jeep or Tacoma instead.

maybe i love tech, but just enjoy actually driving my vehicle instead of feeling like a passenger with a steering wheel?

Jeep really didn't need to axe the manual. They could have just made it the same price as the automatic. It would have sold in the exact same numbers (no one was buying the stick for the price) and they could have padded the margins required to build it.

Instead they are keeping it around on the wrangler, which is slowly killing the non-hybrid engine choices anyway? I'm sorry, there's no world where this really makes sense.

Ford saw the writing on the wall when they offered the sasquatch package on the bronco for 5k and people cried out for a manual. Easy! raise the price of the sasquatch package by the price of the automatic transmission, and then have the automatic become a free option. bye-bye 5k sasquatch, hello 7k sasquatch. The enthusiast crowd was just asked to pay for their preference.

Exactly, they all point and moan about the little 10k Thailand Toyota truck, but if they drove the little solid axle 100 hp manual transmission regular cab thing, they would want to change everything about it lol.

Dodge had the reg cab 2wd Express with a Hemi and 3.92 gears, sweet little hot rod truck, people went in the dealer and said, i want that, but with 4 doors and 4wd and bluetooth bidets... And now you can't even buy a reg cab Ram lol.

I'm tired of getting into n=1 sample size arguments here with people so I'm just going to say this: it doesn't matter what you want. There are tons of people screaming about the manual but not enough people willing to pony up the coin to buy one new. That's all the manufacturers care about. If people buy them, they will make them, but it's clear that for the JT, the number wasn't enough. The number of people for which no MT option is a 100% dealbreaker is very, very small and it's even smaller for a company blind brand loyalty like Jeep.

And it's not as simple as just raising the price a little. Aside from supply chain and long
term support concerns, manufacturing line changes cost time and potential errors. Harnesses are different, control modules are different, assembly process is different, trim is different. It's not just the gearbox, it's a hundred other little parts that vary between the models which require deliberate changes to the process during manufacturing.

The Wrangler will lose its MT someday as well. The huge majority of those who buy new buy it because they think it's cute or looks rugged or whatever and they don't give two shits about how many pedals it has. Add in the push to electric where transmissions become moot, enjoy it while you can.

So glad I was patient and waited the 5 months after ordering my 22 Mojave exactly how I wanted it which meant the MT and the half doors and every option possible but smokers group. I bought it knowing it would be my last vehicle.

I put in a centerforce clutch and the transmission is fine---I agree that the ratio's aren't great but it's easy to get used to them.

I won't do an automatic because I'm convinced half the reason we have some many traffic accidents is that automatic transmissions allow drivers to not pay much attention to driving at all.
