I've been reading several bad experiences from owners who did the latest recall work for the clutch, and some advising to skip it completely.. I booked in my recall work to be done, but I've since been reading a lot of issues where the new PCM software they install puts the jeep into limp mode and you have to take it to a dealer when you slip the clutch a bit.

Has anyone done the latest clutch recall? (brownie points if you tow with your Gladiator!)

For more context, I will be towing a travel trailer that is just under my rig's limit. After backing it in the driveway I got the clutch slippage message on the dash (but it didn't go into limp mode). Because of the PCM update that the dealership will do, I'm wondering if this will be worse? Last thing I want is to be driving in limp mode on a roadtrip!

I bought the 2021 gladiator last april and they did some kind of recall work before I took possession. I'm wondering if the 2024 clutch recall work will make issues worse.

Any input would be greatly valued.
Thanks!

Use 4-low for reversing into a camp site or up the driveway. Even on pavement. It may bind and hop a bit but that's better than smoking the clutch, and much better than limp mode. Try to straighten things out before 4-low to reduce the binding.

I am waiting for them to improve things before any update.

I just bought a new 2024 Jeep Rubicon w/a manual transmission last summer, and after 1500 miles, I started hearing noise when I downshifted from 4th to 3rd.

I brought it in, and they confirmed it. They also found that the clutch also had a broken spring on it as well. I asked if I could put an after market clutch in, in place of using the OEM, and they wouldn't allow it since it was under warranty.

It took over two months to get a new transmission/clutch assembly. Once replaced, it drove w/no issues for two weeks until I started getting error lights on the dash.
I once again brought it in, and after two weeks, they determined that the clutch pedal had a bad sensor on it, which required tearing the dash apart to replace.
When I got it back, there were no more problems w/it, but after having the dash torn apart, I decided to get rid of it. Fortunately, the Gladiators were then on sale, so I traded the Wrangler in for a Gladiator, w/a loss of course, "BUT" w/an automatic transmission this time. My first automatic.

Since then, after 5K miles, no issues w/the Gladiator, knock on wood.
It still appears that Jeep is still having problems w/their clutches, even on the 2024's. You're better off going w/an after market clutch assembly than w/one from Jeep.

Got the recall done last fall, and zero issues since. I've put it through a 3000 mile road trip, with Ouray and Moab trails thrown in, with situations slipping the clutch and again, no issues or limp mode. It's a completely different clutch feel than original, it's actually useable, and I can back up a hill in reverse without having to go to 4wd low. I recommend getting it done.

I had it done a few months back. Have not noticed any difference or had any issues.

Just occasional towing (maybe once or twice) with a 16' boat / 50 HP motor. No idea on the weight.

I just got mine back from the ā€œupgradeā€ earlier this week. The difference was very noticeable and surprising. It now doesn’t engage until I press about 70-80% of the way down on the clutch, but then it has great grip and feel thru the final 20%. After driving it for a few hours, the Service Transmission message came on the dash, so I brought it back in the next day. The tech notes from the dealership says they don’t see any codes but it’s still there for evaluation. Something feels very wrong.

Has anyone experienced this or heard of something similar?

Clutch should disengage fully by the time you are halfway or little more down and engage should start at that same point. Within the first 1" of travel the peddle should start to have pressure being applied to the pressure plate to disengage and then start to engage from the bottom and that same full disengagement point.

Update: I picked up my Jeep today and the technician said there was some trapped air that was causing the issue. Everything seems fine now, consistent with how others have described the update (feels a little better than pre-recall update).

What does the clutch slippage message say, and does it only appear when towing? I have not seen that one before.

I have a manual 2-door. Put a Centerforce II in it, love it. Haven't taken it to the dealer for the recall and have zero plans to ever do it. I live in a state where recall notices play no part in registration so I have the luxury.

Call me superstitious but that is my plan.

Thanks for the insight everyone! In terms of the message on the dash, it hasn't appeared since then (even with 4 towing trips now). I think it said clutch slippage detected or fully engage clutch

Thanks for the photo, has this message ever reappeared since you had the recall work completed?
I have only seen it that one time and it was 100% my fault, I forgot I had changed the gear ratio with my Tazer instead of JScan and unmarried the Tazer 😮

I have since changed the gear setting with JScan and all is good.

This was the first message that popped up then shortly after I got the other warning and limp mode. 🤬
