If I enjoyed Europe that much I would just move there.
If there was a place like the Florida Keys in Europe I (and especially my wife) would have a 40' container filled with all our stuff and shipped there (now getting my Jeeps imported there is a whole different problem). It is really a shit in a lot of places in the US that people are so close-minded and worry about what other people are doing. If my Jewish neighbor wants to get naked and sing Amazing Grace in his backyard while eating a rack of pork ribs with his boyfriend .... more power to him! I'll take them a 12 pack of beer if I like the music.

But the thought police here don't like that. If you don't drink the Kool-Aid, you are too much this or too much that.

OK, OK, back to the topic. I did manage to get Jeeps into the conversation (he he he!) Just responding to others' comments.

Thats the cool thing about America. There's a place for everyone. Have you looked into California?

Actually the Keys here are fine. Crazy enough. California is too cold for my taste. I'm into boating and we have hundreds of marinas here and the water is warm year-round. There are many more opportunities for off-roading in California that I would like to experience but I've just come to the realization that my off-roading future is in the Florida mud instead of the rocks in the West.

Then Florida is not the place for you. You do get the "seasons" thing in North Florida but down here, in the wintertime, if we have a "cold snap" and the temperature doesn't go above 70F or goes below 55F or so at night people begin to panic ... lol. But on the positive side, we don't get the temperature extremes. Here in Key Largo, the all time record high is only 97F. So goes life.

Don't come here then. We've tied the FL record for dew point, 100% humidity.

My son and his wife live in Florida.
They visited Iowa in July a couple of years back. .And what did she complain about? The heat and humidity here, she couldn't wait to get back to Florida (they lived in Iowa for several years)

I put the mini-split in my shop because in the summer the book covers and seats would get mildew on them from the wet. I had to air condition it because of the humidity.

People Work?
If you are the "average" American, May 8 is your turnover date every year.
That's the date that the money you've been earning all year begins to become your money.
The previous 127 days since Jan 1 were for taxes.

_____________________________

The average American taxpayer pays approximately 34.7% of their lifetime earnings in federal, state, and local taxes, which equates to roughly 127 days per year based on a standard 365-day year. This figure represents the total tax burden across all types of taxes, including income, payroll, sales, and property taxes.

I didn't see my State listed soo
New Hampshire

0% state Income tax

0% sales tax

0 bottle deposits

$6500 property tax - 2800 sq/ft on 2 acre with decks and a 14 x 18 ft out building

$600+ this year (goes down every year) on a 23 gladiator Vehicle registration ($55.20 to state so the kids get the books and the town does some voodoo magic math that pays for roads and cops) I itemize so that's a write off

in January State vehicle inspections and emissions go away

State owns the booze stores, it's cheap and we drink for the kids!! (booze for books! no an official state slogan but we use it)

Now there is no free lunch:
9% Dinning
9% Hotels / Camping

The business tax is high and some other rich guy taxes like dividends but I don't live that life lol

Auto insurance is inexpensive since its not required but then again neither are seat belts required for adults (they get you for comprehensive however)

oh yeah life free or die isn't just a motto NH is a constitution carry and concealed state (yep no permit other then 2A) and if you pay the fed stamps you get the fun stuff

We do, but if you paid all of your various taxes up front, you'd work the first 4 months for the gov.

About $450 in state and local taxes for my house (1100 sq ft, 3bd/2ba) on a quarter acre. I think my girlfriend is closer to a thousand? She has similar house on one acre.

No annual taxes on my truck, but I paid around 9% tax on it when I bought it. Registration fee like every two or four years for $75 or so - get a fresh sticker for my license plate.

Everything else is sales tax. On everything. Varies from parish to parish, but it ends up being around 9.5% for everything in a store or restaurant.
