As far as EV and off-road go I think manufacturers should stick with stuff like sxs for that. Just my opinion but a sxs is way better suited for electric power than a Jeep going on trails.
Have you watched the videos of the 4xe in action on the trail?'
Electric or hybrid is ideal for that use. Full torque and power from the time your foot rests on the pedal. They literally walk over things with ease.

I never really cared about the 4xe, but I am interested in REEVs like the Ramcharger. That drivetrain makes much more sense. I really want to see a REEV Mercedes Sprinter RV van.
Nothing wrong with PHEV as a system, but Jeep botched it royally from the beginning. Just a huge pos. We owned one for 14 days and sold it at a loss. We’re named plaintiffs in the class action.

So does anything with good gearing though.

FCA just bought back my 25 4XE. It was a disaster. Thankfully it worked out for me much better than it has for most who are now stuck with vehicles that don’t function as intended and are plummeting in value.
our has functioned as intended and saved my wife a lot of trips to the gas pump. A couple of years ago she went 500 miles in about 3 months and it took just under 10 gallons to fill it. That's one fill in months - in 500 miles.

It's all about what the previous administration was forcing them to do vs what the customers want and what is profitable,
4xe gone, 392 Wrangler returns, TRX returns, etc.
It was out well before.

We've had great luck - it's too bad we weren't able to get a another PHEV Jeep. That was the goal.
The one and only issue ever was the transmission leak - not a Jeep issue but a ZF issue!
To this day, 3 years later, it works as intended, as designed and is reliable as heck.

There are 4 open safety recalls on the 4XE currently, including a ā€œdo not chargeā€.

A few have. Many haven’t. Glad yours is working for you though. I’m glad for anyone who hasn’t had issues, but they couldn’t solve the widespread problems, and now punted on the whole platform.

Yeah, talk about fear mongering. They had to do that. The REAL issues are rare.

Ours had one recall - for the battery thing - and it passed that perfectly. No problem.

Mine was bought back because of repeated software issues that continued to shut it down with zero warning, while driving. That issue is now recall A7C. There is also 73C, 68C, and 78C. Hybrid control, engine, battery, etc… everything that could go wrong has in some of these. The A7C recall alone bricked 25K+ 4XEs.

Those issues don’t even include the Grand Cherokee 4XEs which also had massive issues.

I’m glad yours functions, but right now you are the exception, not the rule. FCA is on the hook for 10’s of thousands of defective vehicles.

Not including ours, I know someone else that has had theirs bricked multiple times. Full battery replacements and it broke again.

I do know about the torque thing but I just don’t think I could trust one for an 8 hour trail day. Maybe it’s just me but I trust internal combustion more than a big ole high tech battery to get me home. I’m not against tech or solar or sustainable energy at all and I am heavily invested in it, but in this regard I’m not a fan.

How could this have gone wrong? Coming from a company that is famous for the Pentastar tick. Sounds like there needs to be more research and development.
