I'm expecting exactly that: $3500 at the Sport level, $4000 Sport S, $4500 Overland(Sahara) and $5000 Rubicon. This keeps the lower trim levels more accessible (which I think will be at a lower take rate), and maximizes profits on the higher (and higher take rate) trims. Of course, I want a Rubi, so this sucks for me, but the JL is a great consolation prize...
Yeah that's reasonable pricing. Lucky for me I'm getting a sport. I did want a Rubicon but then I looked at my finances and discovered it's not a good idea with my current situation to get a 50k truck. But a 37-38k truck would be more like it.
If the sport I want is over 38k I will have to get a JLU.

Ok did you just jumped the shark? Are you saying a Base Sport JT is $3,500 increase over base Sport JL but the base Rubicon JT is $5,00 over base Rubi JL? Are there that many more standard options that I have missed?

You say thats reasonable. Please explain why you think $3,500 jump for base sport but a $5,000 Jump for base Rubi?

I'm thinking by way of percentage. If a Sport JLU is $35k, then 10% is $3500 additional for a Sport JT. Likewise the JLUR (with some popular options) @$50k, the JTR will come in around $55k. The towing/payload increase and chassis/suspension upgrades alone have to be worth that much more, especially when the JT loses very little (in anything) over the JL in terms of everyday comforts/amenities. I can see where one would argue that the premium would be the same money value across all trims, but I think FCA will play with percentages rather than dollar value. I can hear it now:"The JT comes in at only an 8-10% premium over the JL! Rather reasonable considering the increase in everyday capability for this 'lifestyle' vehicle!"

Gives Jeep a decent profit margin yet keeping the base price low. You see the JLU is just a stretched JL. But the JT isnt a stretched JLU with a bed it has a beefier frame and axles and many other things. Therefore if it had the same price difference as a JLU does with a JL jeep would make little to none profit from the JT. The point of staggering price difference is to make the base model more affordable yet still have decent profit margin. The base model should be affordable especially since it still has crank windows in 2019 and the whole point of a base model is to be affordable.

I assume that a large part of the Gladiator was developed along side the JL combining the development costs over two vehicles. The rear end of the frame was said to be a modified RAM/possible new Dakota frame again combining the development costs across two vehicles. If they are able to utilize some of the same parts for more than one vehicle as most manufactures do these days then that should lower initial cost for all vehicles concerned. They have already increased the cost of the JL almost 5K over the Jk and as far as I have seen have not had any trouble selling them. I do not think that FCA would have a problem seeing profit comparable to the JL for the JT even if they priced it exactly the same as the JL or at least in line with other mid sized trucks unfortunately I think that they are shooting for high costs/higher profit and as a result will just end up pricing a lot of their customers, including myself, out of the market.

Jeep is bringing home the bacon for FCA right now. They are going to milk it dry so I see about 5k difference between a JLU trim level and the JT of the same.

I am in the same boat . Would like a decently optioned Sport S (hard top, 7" screen entertainment system, and package with the bed rails and outlet, and more if possible) all for no more than 40k . Maybe getting a manual tranny can get me there... Not too hopeful

The gladiator still has some of its own components that are not shared with the JL. So the Gladiator still has some development costs of its own.

I’m in the boat saying the JT aid going to prices along side the JLU. I’ve had a couple dealerships already tell me the know from internal Jeep headoffice that they are being priced very close to a similar JLU.

They were developed along side the JL and a lot of the development cost were spread across the JL to keep the price reasonable.

Even if jeep says this is an active lifestyle vehicle the target audience is the midsized truck market and the Jeep market and jeep knows that. The people buying these will be Jeep owners, Tacoma, Colorado and Ranger buyers. A lot of Tacoma owners have bought Tacoma’s and not wranglers because they wanted a bed. Jeep knows this. It’s not going to be a huge jump above that in terms of pricing.

I agree I think the Gladiator Sport starts at about $3,500 more than the Wrangler JLU Sport.
