I have been thinking about the S&B hood scoops. But am concerned that just feeding more air into the engine compartment really will not help get heat out. I am now thinking modifications to the stock hood vents would be more efficient. They would actually draw more air out allowing more cool air over the radiator.

Has anyone done anything like this? Any advice would be helpful especially photos. I would like to retain the under hood insulation. Thanks to all that reply

It is easy to open the stock hood vents up. I just used a dremel and cut the bottoms off of the vents. I did leave a small area intact to keep rain from just falling onto the air filter and computer area. That may change for stock engine and filter configurations. Also just cut the insulation away under the vents and lined it with some black Gorilla tape.

Nothing noticeable, but you can see the heat rising out the vents when stopped. Figured as easy as it is to do, every little bit helps.

You gotta ask: What was the purpose of non functional vents anyway?

Style. Just like the scoop on the Mojave.

Unless the Mojave was really originally intended to have the 392. 🤣

I did mine and I can gaurantee that while moving it helps tremendously. If there is a flow if air it helps when crawling in 1st and 2nd or in low side it doesnt help as much but when the fan kicks in it cools quickly . In the winter it makes great place to warm the hands. I ditched the hood blanket and I ditched the darth vader motor cover (both heat holders) i have since ran it winter and summer like this and I like the mod. It literally cost me nothing but 5 or 10 minutes of careful cutting . I live in the rain forest of the east . It hasn't bothered anything as far as rain coming in there. It also snowed and snowed . Didnt hurt anything.

Temps today after 1.5hrs of driving and hilly and winding roads steep roads. Still will heat up if pulling a hill several mikes long at grade but cools quicklybon the downhill side.

I installed these a couple years ago. I swear I gained at least a mpg and a smoother running motor. Only downside, the fill with leaves where I live and they’re hard to clear out.

I cut the bottoms off of mine. No difference in temps going down the road. But slow crawling, it does help.

I wish the mojave had a 392, but at least the scoop was easy to make functional. No cutting needed. It's 2 pieces snapped together with a little glue. A little parting with a screw driver and it's wide open. The light bar was an added bonus.
