Driving the Gladiator I don’t have this problem. Everybody thinks I have my high beams on all the time. Nothing but flashes allllll the way home. 🤪
I hate to tell you this, but you might need a headlight adjustment.. unless it’s because you’re one of those guys with an LED bulb in the halogen housing lol

I have plans of being the uncle.
I have the Uncle but he's more into boats nowadays than fast cars. Once upon a time there was a number of old Chevy muscle cars that rotated through his garage. And then there were the alcohol-fueled pulling tractor motors, pro-streets, dirt track stock cars...

Kids nowadays really don't know what they're missing.

Ohh my favorite topic.

When I bought my Gladiator in 2022 I put some LED bulbs in the stock housings and then adjusted the headlights down slightly. I was flashed twice in two years.

One of the bulbs started to fail, and I didn't want to search for another bulb - so I just stopped at Oreilly's and bought regular bulbs (Sylvania XtraVision) to put in it. Not the most expensive, not the cheapest.

Get flashed all the damn time now 😂

But I can see fine with them so I'm likely not fooling with LED drop ins OR full replacements ever again.

Proud uncle here. 😁

Co-worker once told me my boats were my kids. 😆

Tin foil hat off for a second.. I’m not so much worried about the man spying on me but instead of added complexity.

For example, family friend owns a 2020 Honda with all the safety features, one day, all of the lights on the dash came on for them and it yells at you. The engine runs fine, trans is smooth, no issues within the emissions system, but because the vehicle’s on board lane keep assist, auto cruise, pedestrian avoidance, etc. has an issue you have a Christmas tree dash. They’ve taken it to Honda, $8,000 worth of parts and labor but the lights keep coming back….

I have a 2000 XJ, piston cracked, we yanked it, stripped it down to the block, had it bored, we reassembled, threw back in and it started first try-ish… I had a bad CPS at first… but I’ve been driving it for over a year. No complicated electronics, simple, mechanical.

What’s more practical and comfortable? Unless you’re wheeling daily, the Honda 100%… but something to be said about losing touch with the machines we drive and being able to turn wrenches and fix in a garage with some hand tools and a few beers with dad.

It’s like sun setting the old west circa the late 1800’s, times are changing.

Our solution has more or less been, we have newer cars for daily use and plan to keep something older around with readily available parts and diag that we can work on our own for the most part.

Like our 2006 Chrysler mini van. The ole lady wants to upgrade out of it but we plan to keep it as a good older backup car.

My 2015 Camaro is very modern as well - but surprisingly easy to work on and get information / parts for, and isn't wired to the outside world like new stuff is (aside from OnStar - which I can yank the parts for easy enough - if I was concerned).

For me it's not as much a big brother thing as a just wanting to have something we can personally solve the problems on when something else lays down.

The only people telling you, "you have nothing to worry about," are the people you should be worried about. People suck. Get off my lawn.
“I’m from the government, I’m here to help.” Scariest statement ever.

The sky is not falling. It's called progress and compromise and EVERY culture and civilization goes through it.
You sir and your kind - with all due respect - are the biggest part of the problem we have. And you don't even see it. Sad....

Spoke to a buddy at the CIA (retired) that has the best answer yet. The "government" has had access to EVERYTHING you do and say for decades. it has MASSIVE amounts of data and capabilities on everyone in the country, including the ones that THINK they are off-grid.

So the issue is not what they have or what they can do, that ship has long ago sailed. It is WHY would they be interested in YOU? And the trick is NOT to do something that will get their eyeballs fixated on you.
All created by those who think like you. If you are not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about. That is NOT what living in a free society is all about. Over 1.5 million American lives have been lost over the last 250 years fighting against that way of thinking, and now everyone thinks it is cool because of free stuff. Trading mass surveillance for what? A free phone, free housing. What is the cost. It never works out for the people.

Im so far off grid they CANT track me!! No social media, barely on the power grid, and I don’t talk to people on these…….. forums……. Well dam.

seriously though yeah the govt can track anyone they really want to. If you’re really worried about it, don’t do illegal shyte. That simple. I’ve had enough background checks for positions and schools and things they know everything about me anyway.

My buddy in Langley says, that every child born since 1965 has a dormant tracking chip that was implanted at birth. With the click of a mouse, they can see where you are, where you have been, and EVERYTHING you have done since you were 30 seconds old…….

Yes, nothing says facts like, "my buddy in the CIA said"

😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Ahhhh the standard post response of the low comprehension reader. Say something meme like completely devoid of information, logic or value and then follow it with a bunch of stupid emojis. Maybe you don’t get to hang with smart people so you don’t understand having friends that actually are or retired from places like the CIA. My friend in question was in a History Channel show but that matters not. You should give hanging out with people of substance and LISTENING to them a try. Or stick to your emojis. They are cute... and it does make me chuckle.

Folks, I work for a HUGE Global Telecom company and have been involved in Auto Telematics and IoT for decades working on this since it's humble beginnings in the 90s. Because of this I have a lot of exposure and experience in this sector. SO let me sum it up.

The sky is not falling. The features being discussed have been active for years, some for decades. GM has been able to disable your vehicle remotely for a long time, so have many other OEMs. Relax, there are a LOT of folks working on this stuff and intrusions against customer/drivers are a HUGE no-no and massive potential liabilities so more lawyers than engineers looking into this and deciding what is Ok and what is not.
Yeah, don't believe you. Sorry.

Buried in the infrastructure bill is a requirement for cars to monitor the driver and shut down if the system thinks they are impaired. Telematics data is extremely valuable and I'm supposed to believe "yeah, bro, just trust me"? Nope, just follow the money.

Just look at the systems already in place, like Flock cameras, that track your vehicle by make, model, color, plate, damage, modifications, even stickers and correlate that information not only with the registered owner, but facial recognition, other biometrics like height and even gait analysis. Flock's latest thing is to add signals intelligence and correlate all that data with devices that typically travel with that individual so they can track the person's movements even when the vehicle isn't present or biometrics are obscured.

I know it sounds like tin foil hat stuff, but this is all in Flock's own documentation and sales information. The entire system is about circumventing the protections of the Constitution that limit government searches; but a private company can collect anything they are able to under the First Amendment and sell that data to the government or whomever they want. If you thought the military-industrial complex that Eisenhower warned us about was bad, let me introduce you to the surveillance-industrial complex where the rules are made up and your rights don't matter. Collecting, collating, packaging, and selling every aspect about you is a multi-billion dollar per year business and the people who should be curtailing it are stoking the fire by being the top paying customer.

I've already asked the gubbermint for permission to own some cans and an SBR, so there is no running for me 😂

Shades of Red Barchetta in my future? Cool. Good thing Im not planning on ever getting rid of that e46.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to fire up the willing engine, drive like the wind and strain the limits of machine and man.

Or I'll just put the album on and sip my coffee.

I've got the Handschalter gassed up with 101 octane and ready for my Thelma and Louise moment when "they" come ... Pink Floyd's The Wall trailing off into the canyon ...
