The Gladiator is not much smaller than a Ram 1500 at all. Those of you buying the Gladiator because it's "mid-sized" are kidding yourselves.

Having said that, the Gladiator does have a lot more "fun" appeal than the Ram. That's definitely the reason we're here. The Ram 1500 is less expensive, has more capability, and has a ton more power. It gets identical fuel economy, and it'll be less expensive to insure. It's more practical, certainly. But, you can't take the top off or the doors.

So at the end of the day the 1500 Ram is cheaper hauls more.. and isn't a pain to order.
Why the Glad?
If you are asking yourself that question, you very likely are not a potential JT owner. By all means, go look at one & drive it tho when they arrive.
The whole 'Jeep Thing' does not translate into words very well, but I would sum it up as 'Freedom'.

PS: Gladiators are not a pain to order now, as you can't order them at all ;)

Gladiator 218″ L x 74″ W x 75-76″ H 16,132 square inches of footprint
Ram 1500 229-242″ L x 82″ W x 77-78″ H 18,778 square inches of footprint

So 11" inches or more shorter and 8" narrower. That's a lot smaller. about 16.4% smaller.

I mean is it big for a midsize? YES, will it fit in my garage, with 12" to spare.

Will the small 1500 ram fit in my garage? Not without getting rid of my beer fridge, and daddy likes beer :beer::beer:. Not as much as brett kavanaugh, but enough.

There is a really good article I read that explained how the mid-size truck segment is not actually a real "segment" in itself, but just loads of marketing... as usual. Let me see if I can find it again.

The answer to the OPs question is: fun...

The ONLY reasons I would buy the Gladiator are:

1) Narrowness over a full size
2) Taking the top off in the summer
3) Looks - I love how it looks

The problem for me is that I do a LOT of long distance trips (6+ hours of driving) and I'm simply worried that it wont be comfortable enough and I can pick up a lightly used Ford Raptor for roughly $5k more. The problem with the Raptor for me is the width as it will limit the trials I can go on. I guess if the Raptor Ranger was out that would be best fit for me but its not so here I am debating still what to do.

That’s not accurate my man. It has neither the feel or actual size of a full size truck

The mpg of the RAM is far lower than even a Rubi JT

The cost of a well equipped Laramie is over the JT Rubi even with discounts

So I’m not sure what you are talking about but I’ve been in the RAM and studied it prior to making my order for the JT and they are very different vehicles

But I could see without thinking about it you might get to your conclusion

Ford, Chevy, Ram, Toyota it doesn't matter in the end they are just pickups. Gladiator is a Jeep (need I say more) with a bed which increases it's utility and looks

I currently own an AEV Brute Double Cab. I travel from Austin to Oklahoma City (6 hours) at least twice a month in it. While it is not near as comfy as say an Audi or even Grand Cherokee, it is fine on the highway. The new Gladiator will be even better. The longer wheel base over the JKU (I've made the same trip several times in that as well) really helps smooth out the ride.

As much as I hate to, I am about to sell the Brute and get a new Gladiator.

Just wanted to share my thoughts on long distance trips in the truck. Cheers!!!

When they hit (assuming they do) the rental market, take it on your 6hr trip. I would recommend anyone on the fence about any vehicle to rent one if you can. Try it before you buy if.

Customizability for me. Of course, you can customize any full size truck, but there is so much that can be done to distinguish one Gladiator (or Wrangler) from another, its made to be modified (just look at all the shops that make aftermarket parts for Jeeps). Brand recognition (almost anyone that sees the grill knows its a Jeep), vs a full size. Convertibility as well (take the Freedom panels off, take off the top, put a soft top on it, get a bikini for it), you get the right amount of wind in your hair and sun on your face.

I have a truck and I have a Wrangler. I need to be able to haul 14k lbs a few times a year, and get a load of gravel or top soil, that is where the truck comes in. I sometimes off road on tight trails, or want to go on long rides in the summer with the top off, that is where the Wrangler comes in. I even looked at Raptors, Rebels and Power Wagons but could not get something that works well in both situations.

The closest thing I found to checking all the boxes was when the Gladiator was introduced. And I am still keeping the truck and Wrangler!

Good point about rentals. I haven't driven a Jeep in years. This last week I was able to rent a new Wrangler for work/travel. Had for 4 days including a 3 hour trip from KC to St. Louis. It was more than I expected in ride and comfort. Gas mileage was good. And no aches or pains after 3 hours in the seat. I expect the JT to be even better with the longer wheel base.

I don't get this type of a question or any of the threads being posted on this site comparing the gladiator to any truck. If I wanted a Taco, Bison or Raptor I would be on a forum dedicated to that vehicle. I really think there are people on the forum secretly trying to steal sales away by posting this stuff.

I want a gladiator for the same reason most do........it's a Jeep!:like:;)
