And here I was going to ask what people thought of these - maybe I'd better avoid an attack and not.........

Those definitely have their place! It wouldn’t be terrible to have a front receiver installed, then wire the front and rear for your winch connects. Keep the winch clean and dry at home when you have no intention of being off the beaten path. I went down that route with my 1st Tacoma..

Overland - mostly road trips, swap meets, car shows, hauling my cars around, no big trails or rock crawling here in Iowa - fields, mud, rivers, but limited places to get into trouble.
In fact if you look at the Jeep app for finding trails or go online with the Jeep site to find stuff for off-roading - you have to spend a day driving away from Iowa to find anything. I think southern MO may be about the closest, maybe the Dakotas.

I figured the Overland would be ok for some rough areas now and then with better tires, and to help others if needed (have helped pull people out of muddy parking lots after events, too)

I installed this a couple of weeks back - and yes, I'll have to think about the wiring so I can quickly connect and disconnect. My next question would be about Harbor Freight winches........ since I get frequent 20% coupons.

Does it apply to things like this?
Funny thing- I had my catalog and coupons with me when I bought other stuff - blast media, vibratory tumbler media, etc. - and they said the 20% coupon didn't apply to the media because they consider it more welding stuff. (Really? I used it to restore electric parts, housings for alternators and such) anyway, while she was saying that she was working on her phone - then scanned her phone and said "I found a 25% for you that will apply to the media". Great, that was 5% better. Those exclusions are in such tiny print a normal person can't read them, let alone me......

I may have to look that up and go shopping again! Of course, with the JT.

I think I found one and it expires tomorrow - I don't see this as an exclusion.
The winch would have to wait but I'd have the mount anyway.

There is one floating around out here for the new Badlands winch with the synthetic line for $600 total. So far all reviews have been positive on that one. I almost pulled the trigger on that one till I got a smittybuilt with synthetic off amazon for 473

I have 2 of these and I'm quite impressed. I've been using winches for almost 40 years.

Would their 9,000 do ?? as that's all the receiver is rated for......... of course with a snatch block and returning the line to a hook would take some of the load off the receiver (cut it by about half)
The overland is about 4800 pounds....... I'd likely not be using a winch on mine to pull myself out quick sand - none in Iowa I'm aware of but the clay around here - once you are in it they go ahead and erect your headstone right there.

It works but it doesn't look as good and has less features

That would be about 300 more than the 9000 with a coupon if I recall looking at their shelf prices earlier today while I was there. Of course a person could always later move the heftier winch to a plate and bumper but I'd likely never need the capacity.
I'm probably done spending for a little bit - still need to keep my eyes open for better tires - sort of a priority.
