I'm picking up my controller on Tuesday. Will hopefully install it this week. My JT is a Rubicon with the factory tow package, heavy duty radiator, etc. I don't have any of the adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring, etc. My buddy who is the service manager told me that it does need to have a computer flash afterwards. I was planning on installing it myself but I am considering letting the dealership do it so if there is any electrical issue I can shrug my shoulders and tell them to fix it.

Ram does but so far those who have installed this and for whom it works, no flash is needed.
I'd ask if they've actually DONE any since it's not in the instructions to do so - others have installed it fine without, and it doesn't integrate into the JT's screens.
(covered at length in 2 or 3 threads)

I'd be shocked to see that it actually needs a software change - unless there's one to keep it from lighting up the dash like a disco club when you press the button.

I am new to towing so bear with me. Just curious if there is any connection between trailer weight and the gain used. I understand there are many variables, but at least a starting point. Can anyone post their trailer weight and what gain they are using? My manual button causes the crazy feedback on the dash, so I am hoping to set it by feel, rather than using the manual button and listening for squealing tires as the instructions suggest. Thanks in advance

I dont think it is related to trailer weight. Many of us with the issue see it with and without a trailer attached.

The button does not set gain. The dial does. Not related.

Yes, I know. Sorry maybe I didn't ask this the right way...I am about to tow a 4,000 lb camper. My question is if there is any relation between gain and weight. For example, if you are pulling 6,000 lbs with your truck and your gain is at a 6, then I would start my gain at a 4. I just don't want to have to use the manual button to figure out the gain.

Sorry. Yes there is. More weight means more stopping power needed.....more gain.

Dealer wants $534 to install and 301 is the part cost. They did mention a software "activation" is involved. Not sure what is accurate here but that is what I was told...

PLEASE see this link -

There is no fix until next year unless you want to modify the connecting harness yourself with a diode.
They are aware of the problem.
No flash, according to FCA/JEEP parts development department.
You need that harness that you can't order yet. It's a FIX, not trailer wiring, it's a bypass system to fix the troubles. It's needed for any JT with this issue.

Again, see link above.

MORE- UPDATED information -
At this time - there is NO fix forthcoming that anyone is aware of.
The harness coming in February 2021 is to add a connection to Wrangler - not a fix for any Jeep.

I said they were aware - no, they are not. This misunderstood the issue and what their own silly harness does.
They were mistaken when they said the harness #82216416AA SHOWN IN THE BOOKLET that comes with the controller is a fix. That harness ONLY adds a connection to the WRANGLER for a trailer brake controller (TBC)
I compared wiring diagrams, wire colors, positions, connection numbers and so on and realized all that does is add a place to plug the controller into if you don't already have one.
It has no diode, it connects exactly where the existing JT TBC plug connects.

The tech is lost, he says until FCA/Jeep issues something, there is no fix, there is nothing a dealer can do to fix it if it throws codes.

PLEASE, if you have issues, FORCE the issue - go through your dealer with @JeepCares and make them start a star case.
You can reference my info, my name here, and my star case (likely closed for all I know since they are so bloody clueless about this)
My star case was apparently ticket #101801693

Again, contrary to what's been said, the harness 82216416AA is NOT A FIX for this problem, it ONLY adds a connector to Wrangler for the controller.
It will not fix your JT.

Just had mine installed. Rubicon with tow package. AB part.
worked for 5 minutes. Dealer even hooked to trailer and OK. Left the service department going about 15 mph, hit brake control button and started throwing codes. They are pulling it out as I type.

Please, what's your build date (well, not yours, but your trucks. You can keep your own a secret)

Another member offered yet another tip I failed to consider -
Please post if you have LED lighting.
So we're looking for dates, but also ACC vs. non-ACC and now LED vs non-LED lighting.
LED lighting is handled differently than others by the modules that handle that.

I'd LOVE to track some folks like you who had a dealer involved and how THEY saw the codes. I bet they were surprised to see the codes thrown. I'll post a pic of my dealer papers again to show the various codes they found stored in mine.
Feel free to use my star case number, name, anything.
I want to see this fixed for EVERYONE, not just me - but you and anyone else having problems with this.
Me, if I HAVE TO I can resolve mine by spending more time and money - but the point is - this is a problem on a part that Jeep has promised for over a year, the docs printed 8 freakin' months ago for this - we see it - and boom, it's broken for at least some of us.

I've gotten over the extremely irate part - now my ADHD has settled down and I'm more determined to see it through. I'll live, my truck will live - but...........

I see you have a 49 Ford.
Here's one for you - the front brakes and spindles from my 73 Javelin on my neighbors 49 Ford -
He wanted bigger brakes and to lower the front a bit, so I gave him my brakes and put Kelsey-Hayes disks on my car

Cool. I can tell by the wishbone connected to the axle, this is a car. My 49 is a P/U, I put disk brakes and a 4" dropped I Beam axle on it, wide whites on red steelies, flipped rear axle and dropped perches 2", its black primer, and in the weeds! I shortened the bed and chassis 5.5" to make it look more like a modern short bed. Its a work in process. 73 Javelin, very cool. I suspect with front drum its probably a smaller motor? Is it original? I worked for AMC in 73 and worked on many of them. . 401 AMX baby, that's the bomb! A Javelin is on my wish list! I go to Mopar Nationals each fall in Ohio. AMC, Jeep is included as well.
