Looking to get my first Jeep and a Gladiator at that. There's a few dealerships around me offering ~12.35% off MSRP of 2020 Rubicons with little-to-zero APR for the first 36 months. As an example, that brings the model I've had my eye on from $56,690 to $49,690.

The only thing is - I've been on the lot of six Jeep dealers and they are PACKED full with 2020 Rubicons. Ive visited these dealers and their websites frequently over the last six weeks and haven't noticed a single of these Rubicons removed (sold). I postulate that they aren't selling at these prices with 2021's already on the lots and these offered builds being high prices but missing key packages that would have made it worth it for an extra grand or two.

I've tried respectfully negotiating the price down and not a single dealer will budge! Literally not a single of the six dealers entertained a discussion of going lower. Do I think the Rubicon I have in mind is worth $49,690? Yes. But I hesitate hard when they got more 2020 Rubicons on these lots than a Honda dealerships got Civics. And knowing the Gladiator didn't really sell well despite it being an amazing truck. You love it. I love it. But it is what it is.

So what do you guys think? Anyone out there score lower than ~8.77% APR?

I got about 18% off MSRP by buying one out of the dealership’s 2020 inventory.

find out the invoice price of the vehicle, also known as factory wholesale price. Most people can get brand new jeeps ordered for at least 6% off that price (they may have to travel a bit to a willing dealer). If you are getting around that price your getting a decent deal, if it's above that price your better off ordering and waiting.

Having said that, cars sitting on the lot are harder to get higher discounts than ordered vehicles because the dealership has a lot more overhead cost involved, but being year end and they need to move 2020's off the lot you should be able to score a good deal of right around the cost of ordering new.

I’d never even considered ordering a vehicle in my life until I saw people here doing it. With the discounts they got, it seems very much worth it to get precisely what you’re looking for. Especially if what you’re looking for is a Rubicon or Mojave. Factory incentives on those have been pretty bad so the dealer inventory prices on those have been pretty bad from what I’ve seen.

Year end deals aren't always the big deal you expect, 4 years ago I was buying a new Durango. I had picked out a leftover silver 2016 Durango R/T. Dealer asked if I really wanted silver and I told him another color would be OK. He ended up making a deal on 2017 Black Durango R/T with the exact same options other than color. He told me that up front he could make the better deal on the newer one so I took it.

Yeah the fuzzy math in finance can work wonders. A dealership that is heavily managed by a CFO will love to take orders. On their spreadsheet, an order doesn't accumulate much overhead cost. Conversely, the model that sat their for 2 months has a lot of cost built up, and they often refuse to take a "loss". Also, any time you can sell the vehicle in the same financial month that you took possession of it, you essentially pay for it with someone else's money and can also factor in the opportunity value of the money you didn't have to spend.

I have had LSS Black Belts come to me with projects that they claimed would save more money than the entire operating budget for 2 years of the Business Unit, so not saying that I agree with the logic, but I will certainly take advantage of it.

So you guys think its better, or as good, to factory order? Was there major improvements to 2021?

Where did you happen to get 18% off MSRP? I'm in the DFW area as well and looking at local dealers also.

Auto Nation in North Richland Hills... This was for a Sport S w/ Max Tow, hard top, 7” screen, and aux switches. They had several in black, but I got the only one they had in Gobi.

I have no idea what the leverage is to negotiate a similar deal on a higher trim package. And I have no idea if the same incentives are still in play.

Bring something to entertain yourself. I spent hours there while they went to talk to the manager, then bring out the manager, then negotiate with the manager, etc...

Awesome, thank you for the tips. Enjoy your Gladiator, sounds like it will be a blast.

Sure thing. BTW I just rechecked my math and I think I was closer to 16%. And I’m probably a mediocre negotiator at best.

I have no idea how that actually compares to anyone else, but I was fortunate because it had precisely what I was looking for. Even if I’d ordered from the factory, the only I may have changed was the color.

With leasing being big in our area I got a good deal on a demo truck when the dealer stated they had a limited amount of time where they could still lease the truck. This equaled incentive to move it before what was November 1st. Note: to anyone with a lease ending Just sold my end of lease tuck a dealer for a profit. Never in a million years did I think something like that could happen.

Due to the Wuhan Flu, I negotiated pricing via email with my local dealer. Didn't go in person until it was time for delivery.
They didn't have exactly what I wanted (2020), so she said just locate a unit (via the Jeep website) at any dealer and send her a copy of the sticker and she'd get that one for me. My best buying experience ever.

I made an offer on a '20 JTR with most options. 6% under invoice. They are not interested.

You can order a new 2021 for cheaper. They are just waiting for the right person to walk in and spend to much money.
