I'm not sure if it is a price mistake... Walmart seems to be the only retailer that sells it in 5 qt. jugs?

My Walmart only had 4 of the jugs of Quaker State left today so I bought them all. With the small stash of oil I have remaining in my garage that's enough oil for the next 30,000 miles. $75 bucks well spent!

Went ahead and grabbed some synthetic gear oil too. Jeep/ Ram axle fluid seems to really get dirty in the first 15,000 miles.

Regarding the quality of the Quaker State oil, our good man WXman said that he's planning to pull a virgin sample and another sample at 8,000 miles for an analysis. This will provide us with some useful information!

I didn't want to but I had little choice, I looked online, looked in stores, this was the only one of the oils I could find...Anywhere! I'm not a Quaker state fan but at $18.97 (WalMart in store) vs can't find anything available online or in stores, it was hard to beat.

Amazon alone carries many of the oils. You can also order directly from Amsoil, too. Oftentimes, your high end oils like Amsoil will leave less ash than your lower end oils like Quaker State. The difference is that your DPF filter will last longer with a lower ash oil.

Actively working on this.

I expect the numbers to be very similar to Pennzoil Euro 5W40, since both are made by the same company and both have nearly identical specs on the data sheets. But we'll see soon!

Here's the virgin oil analysis on the Quaker State Euro 5W40 which is dirt cheap at Walmart and carries the MS-12991 spec.

Now I'll beat on this oil for a full oil cycle and see how it holds up!

I’m battling with my dealership since they used Rotella T6 and then the service manager has the nuts to say that the Mopar Max Pro oil (68231020AA) is Rotella T6. Here is the exchange after the phone call and in person conversation:

Matt,
The file that you sent me states:

We recommend you use 5W-40 synthetic engine oil such as Mopar Max Pro oil (68231020AA) that meets FCA Material Standard MS- 12991 and the API SN engine oil category is required.

Shell Rotella T6 does not meet this requirement. This is what a Shell representative told me yesterday:

If the vehicle calls for a product that meet MS 12991. Our Rotella product will NOT work in the application. The only product we have that meets the spec is the Pennzoil Platinum Euro SAE 5W-40 Full Synthetic Motor Oil

I still don’t understand why you’re saying that Rotella T6 oil is safe and meets FCA’s requirements.

David

David,
The part number specified there is the Rotella T6 part number

Thank you,

Matt,
I disagree and refer you to page 21 & 23 of the 2021 Mopar dealership Vehicle Lubricant & Chemical Catalog. Mopar has different part numbers for both Mopar MaxPro 5w40 (68231020AA) oil and Rotella T6 (68001332PC) oils.

Again, the Shell representative has stated that Rotella T6 DOES NOT meet the MS-12991 requirements that FCA has required for the Gen 3 ecodiesel.

I don’t understand why as a customer I need to explain this to a dealership. I personally feel that you are only using Rotella T6 due to it being much cheaper oil than the required Mopar oil.

I am requesting that my oil be drained and replaced with the Mopar oil that is approved for my engine. This is what should have been done on Monday’s visit. I have also submitted this issue to FCA for their response on the matter.

David

This thread and specifically your post was very helpful to me when I went in for my first Jeep Wave oil change. Upon dropping off, told them I wanted proof that they were using a MS-12991 spec oil. They brought out a bottle of the Mopar Maxpro, made me feel much better about it.

I changed it at around 5,500 miles on the odo and the % oil gauge was still above 50%. Although the oil was already pretty dark on the dipstick, it still showed full. Can’t say that I notice any difference in sound or smoothness of the engine but with the trip I just went on and how hot the oil can run in these it felt like the right time. Probably will go a little longer next time if I’m not having any issues, maybe 7k miles is the sweet spot for being conservative but still getting most of the life out of the oil.

In any case, thanks again for the good information. Because you shared your shitty experience, it might have saved me from the same.
