It's not a bad looking vehicle. With the whole"go green" movement these days, I think a $20k pickup will certainly get a lot of attention.
Look out Prius, Ford is coming for you! ?

Looks like a waste ok $20K
If you’re looking for a work truck, or something for off-road, yes.
But I think Ford hit the nail on the head with this: there’s gonna be market for it.

Oh no..... more dial shifters..... Easily the worst shifter idea.

I hate those shifters - and Honda’s row of buttons that take up a whole console is even worse. Give us a real shifter! Or, if your going electronic, at least put in on the dash like Ram is doing so it doesn’t take up valuable console space.

A friend of mine in high school, now deceased, had his grandmother's 71 302 Maverick with the 3 spd auto and bias ply tires. That avocado green, too. This was in the '80's, so we immediately christened it the "Turbo Mav" because really, it was fast for those days!

Squirrelly bias ply tires though, YECH!

I like the new Maverick a lot better, they took a good name and put it on a neat vehicle this time!
My wife's loaded 73 Maverick 4 dr 302 auto was green with the avocado vinyl roof and interior.

Well the Maverick is the size that the Ranger used to be. The Ranger is the size that the F-150 used to be. The F-150 is just big. A flavor for all.

My girlfriend loves the idea of one of these. She had a Ranger years ago and loved it. Room for both of us and my granddaughter to travel. And with a tonneau cover a huge trunk.
The Maverick is OK for its intended purpose. In the segment, I like the Hyundai better. I did have an old (98) Ranger that I liked. I always regretted getting rid of it - until I got my Gladiator. I absolutely love it.

How did the sheet metal hold out? Mine was a tissue thin rust bucket and only 4 years old when I got it.
Mine made it to the mid 80's when it was side swiped by an uninsured driver.

The electric truck start-ups are out there, several of them for years. Prototypes, shows, and announcements that never delivered. It ain't looking cheap either, not a budget friendly proposition. Heck this inexpensive Maverick (relatively speaking of course) hybrid is something available now and has the name recognition, dealership network.. alot of cards in its favor just from the git go.

You're not going to find any $19,995 Mavericks on any dealer lots. That's a marketing number that basically will only exist on paper.

Ford will sell a ton of these because it's a unibody Bronco Sport with a bed. I can see a lot of people getting into these.

Problem is when it's on the dash people tend to mistake it for a volume knob and start whipping it back and forth while driving, not realizing they're shifting rather than turning up the radio.

Any modern car won't let you shift from P/D/R to another P/D/R if you're going too fast. Hell, the Gladiator doesn't even let you--happened to me the other day.
