Another short lived Ford. Please don't tell me this is where Jeep got their inspiration.

Don’t forget the Maverick is rated to 1500+lbs payload capacity. That’s better than a lot of mid sized pickups on the market.
And better than most Gladiators out there now.

Hmm... something smells fishy in Detroit.

"Last August, before the Maverick went on sale, Ford had said it had already received 100,000 orders for the truck. The company has not provided any updates on orders since then. But like the truck itself, Ford Maverick's actual sales are tiny compared to those of the much bigger F-series pickup which is the best selling vehicle of any kind in America. In December, 2021, for instance, Ford sold over 62,400 F-series trucks compared to just over 6,000 Mavericks. In total, Ford sold over 13,000 Mavericks since the truck first went on sale in October. "

100k orders, but only 13k buyers? And they're closing ordering?

I think Ford is spinning this harder than Psaki after a Biden press conference.

More likely is Ford can't build enough because of the parts problems (supply chain). Stopping orders will inflate demand and keep pricing of new orders high (see: Kia Telluride).

The Maverick launch is tracking similar, if not a little slower, to the Gladiator launch.

I always thought it was a bit ahead of it's time.

A good vehicle.

The maverick is simply a zooped up Escape.

Been there, done that.

Always waiting for the Eco-Boom to let go.

The dreaded power steering pump failure.

I remember VERY light towing, well below its rated capacity, in the summer, in the mountains, the computer would kill the turbo.

It was ugly, OH SO UGLY!

Ive reached the point, after a year or so of debating and researching, that I am 100% committed to purchasing a Ford Maverick as my commuter vehicle.

Im holding out until either later 22 or mid 2023 though - I want to finish some of the major work planned for my Gladiator (Wheels, Tires, Regearing, etc) before I take on that expense.
If my commute was longer I would definitely be looking at a Maverick for it. Seems like a fun little vehicle with the convenience of a bed when needed.

Referring only to the payload....... Jeep Gladiator payload is only about 1100-1200 for most (save for Sport S max tow and so on) while the Maverick is hundreds of pounds better - UNLESS they are saying that only for one specific "max payload" model of the Maverick like Jeep advertised "best in class" - but that's only IF you buy this vehicle equipped exactly this way........
If the typical Maverick has a payload of 1400 or better, that's going to beat the heck out of the typical Gladiator for payload.

Ford rep overheard at press conference "let me circle back to you on that one"..........

Towing is kind of low. but payload is pretty good, at 1500 lbs! With the hybrid powertrain, towing isn't awful, either. It's 4000 lbs., or 2000 on non hybrid. Capability-wise, it's perfect for many families, who just need a bed, and something that can pull the lawnmower or a small trailer. Not everyone needs to tow, some just want/need a bed. I think it'll be perfect for a lot of folks.

Dating myself.

Back in the day, when mamufacturers came out with a new model. They would offer small plastic models of the vehicle coming out.

Monochromatic, usually entirely of a pale green plastic.

CHEEEEEEEP!

I still have the GTO and the Maverick models if they haven't liquefied in storage.

Decal packs too.

DANG, I'm olde!

Did you get one of these when you got your Gladiator?

IMO, payload is really pretty good at 1500. Compare that to 1100-1200 for many of our JTs. Towing at 4,000 pounds would easily pull my neighbors trailer that he bought to haul his JD lawn tractor around with so he could volunteer to mow the church lot and cemetery, and help out friends. I bet he's only at 3,000-3500 and it's a low load. It would do for a lot of people.
It could have hauled my car hauler to Omaha and back with the AMC dealer signs - 1600 for trailer, 100 for the signs plug another 20 for the plywood to strap them down. well under 2000.

My 2013 Eco-Boom Escape, 2.0 Turbo, with tow package, claimed 3650 #, hard pressed with less than 2K. Haven't tried the Glad yet. Yet I feel much better about the naturally aspirated.
