The wife drove in to work with me today and when she picked me up for lunch, the left rear tire pressure was down to 16 psi. Discount Tire was just around the corner so I took it in for them to have a look and hopefully patch.
They were busy and said it'd take about an hour, so we walked across the street to eat some yummy Thai.
As we were just finishing lunch, they called to let me know the puncture was too close to the sidewall and they would be unable to repair it. Unfortunately, they also didn't have the same tire in stock and wanted to know if I wanted to go with a new set.
The JT only has 4k on it and I wasn't ready to replace all of my tires just yet, so I told them I'd just put on the spare for now and figure out what I was going to do.
They were gracious enough to put the spare on for me and not charge a dime. I do like the service I get from them...always have been satisfied with their service.
I looked at the spot where the puncture is and it is on the most outside lobe, right in the middle of a knobby. I understand them not wanting to take any liability for such a repair, as it is borderline where they place the allowable threshold.
Being that I use to work at Goodyear, repairing tires with all sorts of greater damage, I am quite confident that I can patch it and feel safe driving on it for the life of the tire with no issue.

...what about simply getting a new tire at the stealership?
