What is the cost of GG anyway? Does it protect against the normal “sandblast” effect?

My 9 month old normal windshield has cracks and dings BUT if it didn’t I’m still looking at all the sandblasting on it and would swap it out for a new one once a year anyway. It’s costs me $200 cad at CalAlta in Calgary to replace this windshield. (As long as you bring a couple cans of food for the Veteran’ Drive food bank program they have)

I was all set to go with it before reading this. But now it doesn’t sound like it’s worth even bothering with. . .
It's definitely better than the regular glass. Don't let a warranty claim like this make you think the quality of the glass isn't still there. The GG isn't the problem, it's more of the dealership's process that is the problem. As others have said, other claims have gone through no problem.

Someone in another thread said they paid just over $900 (USD, I think)
So let’s say it is $900US. That’s like 6 windshields for me in Canada, one clear view windshield per year. Will the outer layer of the GG withstand 6 years of sandblasting if it was to never catch a bad rock in that time?

So under which circumstance will they replace the gorilla glass windshield under warranty?

If you read the warranty on the GG that the OP linked to. It looks like the warranty is for a REPLACEMENT GG windshield. There is nothing that says the warranty is 2 years on the original windshield, even if its GG.

? Every time I read about dealerships and the levels above them behaving like this I'm praying I get a well built Mojave, that I don't have any issues requiring warranty work, and that I don't have to go to a dealership service department for at least a couple of years or when I hit 20K miles [zero chance I let them do "free" oil changes or mess with any other fluids].

Everything in the maintenance tables I should be able to do and I know I need to have great documentation---which I'm used to doing maintaining my Harley.

? Oh yeah, since I'm praying for a long shot I also add in world peace

There is zero reason why a replacement should be taking this long.
I'd disagree with that - look at how long some of the other parts are taking, and people are being told that the Gorilla Glass windshields aren't even available as replacements - if a person gets a busted windshield (non-GC) and want GC glass as a replacement, they are being told it's not available. So it makes sense that it's taking forever to get a replacement. They aren't available for installation to new customers - maybe because there aren't any in the channels yet.
I've not heard back from a friend who works at Corning - he was going to look into the availability of these windshields as replacements. Apparently there are issues getting these like there are with axles and other parts.

I paid that much to have my windshield replaced with stock windshield a year ago............yes, to get my cracked windshield replaced cost that much. So if I could get one of these for that much, I'd be all over it.

I don’t doubt that it’s better but I’m looking at it from a cost perspective. Normal glass gets dinged and I can get the chip repaired for free or the entire windshield replaced without much fuss. Not sure how that works with insurance claims on GG.

Even if that’s the case, and it may very well be, there’s no excuse for the lack of communication. Thats inexcusable imho.

I highly suggest if anyone wants GG, go with HPG. Their 2 year warranty would cover the pictures people have posted here (unless they changed their warranty since I got mine a year ago).

If I get a crack then all I need to do is take a picture of the crack, picture of the glass' "vin", and within 48 hours they will send out a new windshield as well as pay for the installation of new windshield.

Find a good dealership and they will take care of your problems without causing new problems.

Just got home from a 6 month, multi-state trip. 50 miles from home and took one right between the wipers. $900? I’m hoping this will be painless.

Full coverage glass insurance is cheaper than that and will replace your windshield for free.

I picked no-deductible glass coverage from my insurance company after hearing how Jeep windshields are rock magnets. Fingers crossed I don't have to use it anytime soon...
