This place is starting to remind me more and more of GD over on ARF.com. Some of you might get it.

Oh they 100% absolutely can and will! There have been numerous folks both here and on FB that have gone in for something and the dealership ends up tagging the vehicle in the system and voids the vehicles ENTIRE warranty. It is a complete bitch to reverse that takes a lot of engagement with Jeep HQ. Generally it’s in the system and it’s pretty damn close to permanent. Messed up that a jeep dealership that generally knows shit has the power to single handily screw someone over that bad. Decisions like that should be vetted and done above dealership level.
I'm writing this as someone who worked as a service writer at a Subaru/Saab dealer.
I have no doubt that if a dealer denies a claim like this other dealers will see it.

But you can't "void a warranty". In other words, related things might also be denied. But if this same guy comes in with a heater fan noise, they aren't going to say "nope your frame is bent, so no warranty on your heater fan". Sorry.

The only time I've seen this happens is if the car is a salvage or is flagged as having been submerged in water.

lol arfcom...some good threads on there over the years. I'm not a regular since I'm a little young for their demographic.

Dude, I'm telling you it has literally already happened. Several times. I'm not hypothetically saying it could. People have already had this happen to them. I understand what you're saying. If I have a bent frame from factory they can't, or shouldn't be able to, deny it and void my warranty because I have an AFE cold air intake. But guess what... it's possible in the system to do and people have had warranties completely removed on their vehicles. Specially Gladiators and Wranglers.

Argue with me that you disagree with the practice and that it's wrong and I'll agree with you all day. But argue with me saying it's not possible and I'll tell you to go pound rocks and read the forums and you'll see it's already been done.

I get it. If its happens. Its happened. If it did happen. I'd be talking to a lawyer and not just looking for reimbursement but damages. This is not legal.

It has happened. Subaru is not Jeep. More than one person has said they've had a claim denied and when they went to another dealer, the dealer looked up their VIN and saw the warranty had been voided.
It's stupid crazy that a dealer can even do that - it should be up to some other entity or via an agreement by multiple shops that there has been abuse.
Can't compare Jeeps to other shops. They have their own systems and own way of doing things - even independent of their corporate sisters (the Alfa family of vehicles, for example)

I'm not saying Jeep doesn't have a right to void certain parts of a warranty if a vehicle has CLEARLY been abused - out doing autocross tricks, jumps like that Ford truck tried and failed to survive. That's clearly abuse and IMO - every part of the warranty for that truck should be null and void. Once there's been that type of abuse no one could ever trust that owner to be honest about any crap. And there's Jeep people who do things their vehicle wasn't intended for and then run crying to a dealer "my Jeep broke" when it was the owner who broke it.
Warranties are for defects - not things that break or bend when taken beyond their design or engineering intent.

If a frame is bent because someone hit a hard hole or left the ground and came back hard - tough shit, IMO. That is not warranty. I can't smack a curb and bend a wheel and claim warranty. The wheel was not defective, the driver was.

If a frame bent under NORMAL use or "intended use" - that's a defect in either design or manufacture - and that's all a warranty is for.
IF there were modifications to the frame -things hung on it, attached to it, modifications of any type - then it's no longer as designed and built - no warranty, IMO, because it wasn't being used as designed.

Whomever “invented” the infinite loop nature of the .gif….is a genius. We really don’t deserve to live amongst these people.

Alright, I'll help contribute to the derail....
I had a brand new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro that I installed a supercharger and suspension modifications. I took it to a GM dealer for a warranty claim on the HVAC system and was denied because of the modifications and received a notice from GM that my entire 3/36 warranty was void. I started down the road of arguing my point and quickly realized that my time is better spent doing anything but that. I've purchased zero GM vehicles since then (which I realize proves nothing). I would never have tried to make a warranty claim had I blown the motor or had some other issue related to the modifications, but the HVAC system had nothing to do with what I had done.

100% agree, I never saw the results of most. I know one took several escalation emails to Jeep and it was removed months later. Another was engaging the lawyers because the dealer went the route of "sorry can't change it now".

This is a big thing people are overlooking. Not saying this is OP's problem but as an example, I can imagine someone saying " I just hung 250lbs of gear on my hitch, not even close to the tongue weight ". Then a dynamic event happens that amplifies that to 4000lbs and the frame bends. If you are using the trailer hitch and go off road, I'd stick to well maintained dirt roads only.

Not to mention at least with a trailer you have rebound from the trailer wheels. A hitch mounted tire carrier? Your frame is the rebound.

EXCELLENT post and explanation. And your self-control and understanding of self is amazing.
