I wonder if the bigger, wider, tires are making things worse........ narrower tires do much better in snow - that's been proven by tire companies and real research.

Op, did you notice any difference as the snow consistency or depth changed?
You know how the Alaskan natives have 50 words for snow or something? I've always noticed wheel hop in very specific types of snow probably due to the dynamics that @ShadowsPapa mentioned. I haven't experienced it in the gladiator but the TJ would always get it when a 5-10" deep snow had very slightly melted but not compressed all the way to a packed snow. If it only happens in certain snow then maybe it's not a problem that you can do much about. It's like a weird dynamic of the snow type, tire tread and all the other factors SP mentioned.
as I said.. this winter I had better results in sane amount of snow... not sure why

my tires are same bfg ko2 285 70 17... weirdly and maybe a factor i have black rhino wheels.. 10 lbs extra per wheel.. not sure if that made a diff or if it was a type of snow issue

Yes, but was it the same kind of snow? How it packs down seems to be the key. If it easily packs down to something that the tires can bite it seems to cause more hop.

There have been 2 lines of thought on this. Narrow tires to dig down to solid ground. Or BIG tires to float across the top.

Jeep Gladiator wheel hop in fresh snow 2821A895-7616-4D63-9E3A-32C2B5D2F0D1

Took about 30 minutes to install, two of the bolt holes in the diff had some crud in them as they have been open to the elements for the last 70k miles. I drove around the block and did not really notice any difference. I plan to be in some snow next week and will report on the results.
At least it looks pretty, haha.

Following this thread closely.

Had to use 4HI to get into an uncleared driveway last weekend (maybe 6" of snow, drifts up to 12") and got some axle hop.

NEVER had it in my 2 door JK, despite blasting around in the snow as much as I could, so it took me by surprise. Didn't really know exactly what happened until coming across this thread.
