What are the fees for a commercial truck there? Iam getting ready to renew mine for the first time and I believe its around $70.

In Ohio, it really gets confusing:

REGISTRATION AS PASSENGER VEHICLE
A Van / Truck / Utility Car, defined as a motor vehicle having a single rear axle and an enclosed body, with a permanently installed and attached parallel second seat, designed and used for carrying not more than nine persons.
REGISTRATION AS NON-COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE:
Any motor vehicle, including a farm truck as defined in the Ohio Revised Code (R.C.) 4503.04, designed by the manufacturer to carry a load of no more than three quarters of one ton, and used exclusively for purposes other than engaging in business for profit.
REGISTRATION AS A VAN / TRUCK
The above described vehicle has a single rear axle and an enclosed body, with NO permanently installed seats, EXCLUDING THE FRONT SEAT(S), and is to be registered as a: PICK-UP VAN

Then there are COMMERCIAL VEHICLE options as well.

I have to argue for passenger plates on mine.

I ended up with a passenger car tag instead of a truck tag on my Gladiator when I bought it in Pennsylvania. I'm now in Georgia where they don't differentiate between car and truck.

Florida depends on the GVWR of the truck. I think any over 7500 Lbs (IIRC) is set as comm.

WTH? Got my pink slip for my G today and it says COMMERCIAL Really, for a light truck?All vehicles I owned are tagged AUTOMOBILE. Did my lovely Jeep dealer make an error?

I lived in California (New Mexico now) most of my life from birth until 2013. All my trucks have been registered "commercial". During the gas boycott in the 70s, we could go any day to get gas unlike passenger cars that had the even-odd issue.

If I am reading this right: You can buy a big old bus and as long as you use it for private use it does not have to be commercial. But your gladiator and a station wagon does. So the old lady in a Volvo grocery getter is commercial

When I had my subaru outback smogged, I was charged extra coz it was considered a truck. Oh crap I wonder if dmv also tagged it as commercial.

I am just curious, do you have to get commercial insurance if you have a commercial registration? And apx how much more are we talking about registration compared to a regular vehicle of the same year and weight?

My Ram 2500 2014 has a shell camper and always Com plates and no CDL ever. I tow a 31 ft TT like it's not there.

Didn't know this. My ram is also commercial and assume the JT will be the same. Going to see if I can get the reg converted to passenger car and save a few bucks since the Ram has a topper.
