Hey gents, just took delivery of my 2022 JTR yesterday and on the long drive home from Idaho to San Diego (as I was getting off my exit ramp for my house) while using the windshield defrost for some fog, my windshield literally cracked! No one was in front of me at the time so it wasn’t a rock, but I’m pretty bothered after paying for the gorilla glass that it cracked that easily with some temperature change. Anyone else experience similar issues? Hopefully the dealership will work with me and replace it since I decided not to get the windshield warranty... kinda wishing I did now...

Yep! Same here... Same with the defroster too, I don’t know, do we need to coddle this allegedly tougher glass? At least mine had the decency to wait a couple months. But still, I was not crazy about needing a new windshield inside of the first year of owning this thing. I’ve had trucks for years and years without needing to replace a windshield.

I am convinced that sudden temperature changes along with the modular nature of the folding windshield and removable panels leads to expansion and twisting that causes this. I have the same type of crack that started from nowhere one day going from a cold garage to a hot sunny day. Got worse again when I did the same. I have started leaving my windows cracked a little to help adjust pressures, not sure if it helps.

Does This not fall under the warranty? Seems like it should...

I thought the GG had its own warranty...?

Found it

Larger instances or smaller blemishes, along with the subsequent cracking that may be caused by not repairing them, are not covered by this warranty.
Dealer requires proof of purchase and windshield will only be repaired or replaced under the warranty once within the warrantable period.

Is it the inside or outside laminate?
Outside is regular, tempered glass, inner is the GG...
Just curious...

Wow! I was banking on this upgrade in the future if I needed to replace the glass. Bummer it’s not any better, or doesn’t give that sense of security. Hopefully the company holds up their warranty!

That warranty is nearly worthless as almost every single windshield I've ever had that was cracked to the point of needing replacement started with a chip smaller than a quarter. So if you get hit and the impact damage is 7/8" it's not covered if it cracks right ways and 7/8" is a pretty large thing to fix via the repair methods. They wrote it really clever. If the rock didn't cause this exact damage, screw you is what it says.

I have never had an impact cause damage 1" or larger, when any of ours have cracked, it's been a smaller impact that caused it and it spidered or cracked right away to a size later than any company could repair. These lawyers knew exactly what they were doing.

Yes and most insurance will cover that 100% - do it right away though as if it cracks, it's on you.

Man, I keep reading these posts on this issue and am soooo glad I didn't listen to my salesperson when she suggested getting it. It sounds good in theory, but apparently the glass is too brittle or something and cracks for no reason.
