Perhaps you misinterpret my postulation as my desire for myself to commit such an act. Even where I to be a federal prosecutor well versed in the laws of criminal charges in my area, I would not want to be on the receiving end of the criminal justice system, let alone be faced with that choice. I would also hate to have someone kill my child because they wanted their car (my child being the owner of the vehicle and being killed for it) when someone else could have stopped said carjacker sooner by using proper deadly force during another previous commission of a crime. Odd use of the term "horny" in connection with the topic of shooting. I have seen it used when some folks were called "ammosexuals". Shallow gene pool? For folks who simply want to stand up to evil? Sounds derrogatory of fellow countrymen to me. Anyway, I am happy you have the privilege of not depending on your vehicle as much as I exemplified previously. I hope that you live by your convictions and face any potential consequence for your views and choices with equal certainty and comfort of being on the correct view on the matter, no matter the ultimate consequences to you and your loved ones. Because at the end of the day, feeling good about our choices is what matters most, right? That being said, I hope no such circumstances of a negative nature befall you and you are granted some wisdom to reassess your views, on a variety of stances that you may hold.
^^^ Sheesh, a whole helluva lot of words.

I don’t want to kill anyone ever. Period.

Sorry that I’m not reading all 10 pages from the past 24 hours. Just wanted to came and say what hopefully other have, more alarms aren’t going to help you in these cases. Thefts have been using repeated boxes on vehicles equipped with passive entry systems. Pull handle, vehicle sends search request for fob, repeater box applifies signal to find key signal (heard some go 100s and 100s of yards), and key signal gets repeated to the truck, doors open, repeat the same process to start. Truck thinks it’s a completely normal interaction. Best thing to really do is get a small faraday pouch for your key when your at the house. Or go like me and get a full manual locks and windows. And make your key only work with contact lol

Passive entry not required. You approach truck, you push button on fob to unlock - that unlock signal is blocked but captured by the box. You press again, it unlocks.
Now they have a copy of a code that will unlock your truck, one that hasn't been used (because it was blocked by crook) and will still be good for xx number of unlocks.
The fob, of course, can be captured just because you have it.

I like the fact I could unlock, lock, or start my truck from many feet away with my fob, I hate the fact that I could unlock, lock or start my truck from so many feet away because the crooks like the fact that I can.

There's so many ways this could happen, and of course likely the instructions could be found on tiktok, and the stuff needed to make it happen on ebay.

Shooting someone for taking your stuff (lets consider the outside ones home case)is a tough gig these days...That doesn't mean you can't try to stop him without deadly forces. And if you legally carry (as in some states) and the purp starts presenting a clear risk to YOU of death or severe bodily harm as you try to stop him with less than lethal force you will probably be OK to go lethal (at that point) in stand your ground states...But you may be put through heck with Lawyer fees and even a jury trial by some wacky DA.

The morality of shooting someone over stuff and is not otherwise threatening is a different matter and a moral decision on a person by person level.

Tough call, if thieves encounter little risk of bodily harm, they will just get more embolden.

Wow, I didn’t think that dog looked that heavy! Are giant schnauzers good pets? I have thought about getting a Rottweiler, but I liked my Aunt’s mini schnauzers years ago.
This is him looking over a wall.
Jeep Gladiator STOLEN from my driveway this morning! New Jeeps are crazy easy to steal apparently...

Very few do - "want to", that is.
Only about 3% or so would, and a subset of them would have no remorse.

Society has changed over the years...

1970 Kent state, the "Hippies" ;-) were tossing rocks at the Guardsman and maybe even a firebomb or two. Guardsmen said enough was enough and took a bunch out...Play stupid games win stupid prizes (sadly). Several Civil rights groups went after the Guardsmen but I believe all were equited. I was about 15 at the time.

Summer of 2020, massive riots in many cities, burning down buildings all over the place, beating and even some murders. In most of the cities cops were ordered to stand down...So the thugs did even more of it.

I'm wondering how they're starting it....IF a replay attack wasn't used which it sounds like it wasn't based on the video. My keys have no batteries. Just RFID and key.

Short of towing it....how can they take it? Short of having full dealer capability to program a new FOB etc. Again...there is no signal at all for my truck. FOBs are dead.

Good question - if they didn't have fob access (meaning with batteries LOL) then there would have been nothing to capture. So - how did they bypass the start technology.
If I left my fob (with batteries) next to the door, then it wouldn't take a lot to make a grab of it, but barring that - it's not like hollyweed TV and movies where the guy reaches under the dash (without looking, by the way) grabs two wires (which just happen to appear from under the dash with 1/2" of insulation conveniently stripped from the ends) and rubs them together and it starts - and RUNS....

(I've had so many people ask "can't they just take the wires under the dash and hotwire it"? - I suggest they've been watching too many cop shows on TV)

So you reach up and find two wires to make it crank - great, the starter spins the engine - now how about ignition?

Anyway, unless there was a prior capture of the fob - how'd they do that?

People....either remove your FOB batteries or Faraday box your keys at home if your truck is outside like mine.

F this.

Again....saved me $350....never ordered the prox lock kit!! I was going to add the option prior to reading about these shenanigans.

As for insurance....insurance won't pay for my efforts and memories adding the OEM Front Trailcam. Sure I could get a new truck with it....but I bonded with my truck during that effort. Lol.

A friend of mine is a salesman at a Jeep dealer, he told me that 3 cars have been stolen from them in just the last 2 weeks! All of them were either Scat Pack or Hellcats. One of the thieves was so bold as to test drive the car, and pulled the old switcheroo by giving the salesman back an identical dummy remote and then afterhours came back and just drove it off the lot!
Wild. Yeah these cars will be staging up joy ridden or put in a crate to be sold overseas.

I'm more likely to die from a heart attack, get killed on the Des Moines freeway, or have my truck totaled in an accident than I am having it stolen. I'm not going to live lift as if at any minute my truck is about to disappear. The odds are still in the millions. Why would I go through such things to prevent something that is so unlikely to happen?
I may as well sell or give away everything I have and move to Alaska and build a cabin in the sticks and live off the wildlife.
Living life in constant fear of something being stolen isn't living.
Taking basic simple precautions is great, but to give up how my truck operates like the fob or locks because I'm afraid of a 1 in how many million chance it might get stolen?
No. My odds of losing the truck for other reasons, or getting killed myself are many times higher than this truck getting stolen.
Of all of the Gladiator owners in North America, how many have been stolen, and what percentage is that?
