Love a good payload discussion... One that's had everytime someone buys the Gladiator and wonders why they can't carry a skid of bricks.

It depends how and where you are carrying it.

Across town with the pallet pushed hard up against the front of the bed, ah go for it.

Across the state for 3 hours at 70 mph with the pallet overhanging the rear axle. Probably not the best idea.

My paint is that how that weight is positioned and how far and fast you have to haul it makes a difference. Manufacturers can't take all of that into account with their published ratings.

Also see lots of comments regarding the potential insurance and or legal ramifications of having an accident while being over gvwr or when towing gcwr but I have never seen an actual case posted where the claim wasn’t paid or someone was prosecuted for a violation of either.

I have seen no less than 10 posts saying something to the effect of don't tow over what your door sticker says, etc... I didn't think it was on there.

Bought a Mojave knowing payload was low....all research online indicated 1200lbs. Then I look at my door:

Ack! I need those 114 extra lbs. Haha. I have a pretty low optioned Mojave so it isn't the option sheet that's weighing me down. Is this lower than other people's door jamb stickers? Once I put the 3 kids, wife, Diamondback HD, and BedRug on the truck....can I still pack up a 12 pack of beer?

Time to lose weight and increase my gear carrying ability.....

I know the number isn't a razor's edge or anything, just didn't know it was so variable from what every review says and even Jeep's own spec sheet... 1200lbs. Nearly a 10% reduction.

Gotta be honest. “Best in class towing…” the class is a key distinction. I think of our JTs as truckish Wranglers, and not Wrangler-like full size trucks. There is a difference.

I have a Mojave and could give a f%#* about tow and payload. I almost never need more carrying capacity than my JT can handle. I do go off-road a bit. There is not a truck with a higher wt capacity that can touch my Mojave off road.

Please don’t come at me with Raptor or the TRX. I would take my JT over those big guys every day.

Just an FYI, the Ford Maverick had a 1,500lb payload, where as some F-150's are 1,300lbs. Who knows where these numbers, sometimes i think they are pulling them out of a ht or a CrackerJack Box. LOL!

Obvious there are facts and engineers behind it. I just wish it was a little more transparent.

Lucky... I only got 1071 on mine.

Jeep site says 1700 payload for my JTW. Kinda consistent with that my manual says I can have a trailer tongue weigh of up to 600 lbs.

But my sticker says 961 lbs payload!
Does the weight of the fuel count towards payload?

will filling the bed with helium balloons help?!?

Hmm. My Manual Rubicon hardtop with steel bumpers is 1216 lbs. It's all over the place on these vehicles. I guess if I really need more payload, I'll take off the top and doors. It's getting cold for that though!

I thought mine was low until I saw this thread. ?

Although, I think mine only tows 4500. I'm ok with that because I don't plan on towing anything too big. Maybe just a small dump trailer if I ever need it or a small camper.

Idk why people want to tow or carry so much with such a small truck with not enough power. If you need to haul or carry more stuff. You got the wrong truck for you needs vs. wants.
