Got complete Steer Smarts Yeti XD steering components installed today. Drives almost like stock with 40s. I’m happy with how it turned out. Next mod will be gears. Kind of on the fence between 5:13s and 5:88s.

I haven’t even considered limiting straps and to be completely honest, I didn’t even know that was a thing. After a quick search, it makes a lot of sense to use them. I’m a little far off from doing anything in that department. I’d like to add some long travel control arms at some point after gears.

I’m really going for an overland setup that I can take anywhere I want when I want. Every time I get something upgraded I realize there’s something else I’m going to need. lol I’m learning a lot from your posts so I’m here for it. Curious to see what your updated measurements are.

I’ll have my Steering components swapped by Monday so I’m looking forward to that. The quality and workmanship of the yeti xd parts seem to be well beyond the stock parts. Everything seems like it will be very sturdy. I’ll let you know how it rides when I get it done.

I’m a little ways off, but I like to think ahead. I can’t decide of if I want to go with a hard bed cover with rack and RTT or if I want a nice shell that I could fit my spare tire in at an angle and still have some room to put other things. Possibly mount an air compressor in the stock spare tire space underneath the bed?

40's installed!! Man what a crazy difference!

I did the RCI Rack with their Tonneau adapters and the BAK X4S Tonneau and it's a perfect fit. The 23Zero Armadillo is only about 8'' above roofline including the solar panel I have top mounted on the RTT Tracks. Total Height with the 40's is at 88".

My next round of mods are the Artec Trusses welded in Front and Rear and the RCV 300M CV's for the front with a Torq Locker Center. Then add the 2.5 ton steering kit or similar. New Clayton or Deaver 4.5" springs (On 3.5'' with the Clayton Overland Plus 3.5 kit but they are developing a new 4.5 spring). Limiting Straps. Then some sort of rear bumper or tire swing out (Rig'd or JCR or something).

As for on board air, I did the Viair set up where the spare was and put a couple quick connects next to the hitch for hoses. I have everthing switched with a guage inside the bed so it stays clean/covered with the tailgait and Tonneau.

always something!

Here's a throwback vid to when I first started the project with the Gladiator. Such a trip to look back at memories made with my son. He's now 16 and we've had some incredible trips together with this project. His most recent was a beautiful backcountry Muley Hunt were we harvested his first Muley Buck! Not only was he excited with the experience, but he's already got a freezer full of Venison to fuel his year ahead and growth/strength training for wrestline and BJJ/Judo. These rigs are just another vessel for creating life long adventures and memories!

Hope you guys enjoy! I'll have a few more vids dropping in January for the Channel with the latest round of mods (40's) and some new gear. Have a blessed Holiday Season with you and family from the crew at BackCountry_ADV!!

P.S.
Thanks to those that have ordered from the links/discounts provided! As soon as work settles down again I'll get back out for more vids of the set up in it's natural habitat (Off-road) and share some updates from the functionality and vids captured for reference to the quality of content you can generate straight off the cameras.

Here's details for anyone looking for this set up or any Wolfbox items. They have some really neat gear like their battery chargers, high flow dusters/blowers, jumpboxes, inflators, etc.

For anyone interested in ordering, here's a link and discount code for Wolfbbox:

Rig looks great! I'm currently shopping for a Mojave or Mojave X trim to start a build. Is that the 12" or 18" RCI Rack? Sport or HD?

It's the shorter Mid Height Option also incorporating their Tonneau Cover adapter brackets that raise it 3" or so. I'm running the BAK X4S cover and highly recommend for fitment, ease of use, and solid surface with nice texture. I ofter utilize it as an extra shelf when working off the tailgate.

Here's a few more pics to show the rack, bed area, brackets, etc.

Let me know if need anything more specific or more pics. Always happy to help!

Thanks for the info! I've been trying to find something that is the right height to be versatile for my needs (ski/snowboard rack, cargo carrier, fly rod vault etc) but not huge and overbearing. I will probably go this route and will let you know if I have any other questions. Thanks again for the reply.

How is it with the 40’s?
SO MUCH BETTER!

from a practical application standpoint, I haven't had it in as many off-road scenarios as I've had with the 37's but thus far the articulation and clearance has been fine. I am awaiting Lucas and the Team at Clayton Offroad to release their new 4.5" Springs for my 3.5" Overland Plus Kit as the additional clearance would definitely help with the new 40's, especially off-road.

They have been testing their kits on 40's for a bit and haven't released much content nor data as they want to be super certain it'll meet their standards. From what I've gathered, they're making sure brake lines, parts, etc all work in all conditions without any negative outcomes.

From a personal perspective though, the initial stance and presence of the rig on the 40's is absolutely NIGHT AND DAY improved over the 37's. It's really hard to describe but it's absolutely noticeable. I stayed with the 5:13's I had re-geared when I initially built the rig for the 37's and am happy with the overall performance albeit on the underwhelming stock 3.6 pentastar engine. 285 hp and 260 tq should never have been an option for these trucks in my opinion. It's a gutless endeavor even with the 8 speed.

I'm planning on the AMW Hemi swap this year and torn between the options they offer. That in mind I already upgraded the stock Dana 44's with 4340 axles out back and swapped to Revolution Gears from Yukon (originally the Yukon's where the only parts available and in stock when I built this). I'm awaiting some measurements on the front CV's as I want to swap to a Trac-Lock Diff and the RCV 300M Front Shafts. I already have the front and rear Artec Truss Kit but need to pull everything apart to weld those up. I'm looking at reinforcing everything to handle the extra stress of the 40's and the upgraded drivetrain. I don't rock-crawl or bash this rig. It's built for Overlanding and Hunting/Camping primarily and as such doesn't get abused period.

If you need some more pics or have any additional questions regarding the build, specs, or the 40's let me know. Always happy to help.

P.S. Check out our YouTube and other Social Channels for more pics/content with the rig.

How are you liking the FOX 2.0 IFP shocks? Comfort, etc... Would you change anything? I have a 22 Mojave with 2" AEV and shock extensions, 37's, 4:88s........ I'm ready to swap that out for the Clayton 3.5 overland. So, I need to decide which shock package to go with. Thanks!

I have recently (last year) added the Falcon 3.3 Fast Adjust's all the way around. For comparison, I would spend the extra $$ and get the Falcon's hands down every time. I can't beleive how much of an improvement they made. During my original build, parts were scarce so I went with the Fox 2.0 IFP's and they were great for a year or so. However, upon upgrading, I really noticed how much better the rig handles on the firmer settings on the tarmac and how much more compliant the Falcon's are on the softer settings off-road on chunky trails, etc.

I also did the Artec Inner Fender Well liners as they do a version pre-cut for the Falcon shocks. I had mine Done in Line-X coating before installation and love how they look and fit. So much cleaner than stock.

I’m guessing a stiffer setting up front would help keep it from bouncing off the bumpstops?

Thanks. Heard great things about the Falcons!. Did you get the 3.3, 2.5-4.5 lift or the 3.5-4.5 long travel?

Correct I added/upgraded to the Falcon 3.3 Fast Adjusts. On the suspension I have the Clayton Offroad 3.5" Overland Plus kit (Short Travel Version) and it's a tight fit on the 40's but clears. They (Clayton) have tested this kit with 40's on a few Gladiators already. In conversations with Lucas and they Team there at Clayton, they have noted they are currently testing 4.5" springs for this kit due to release mid year 2026. I'll be the first on the list unless I do the custom Deaver Springs in the meantime. I do want to note that Clayton has had hands down the absolute best customer service, before, during, and post sale for their kit and products. They are incredible.

Let me know if you have any other questions. (on a side note, check out the Artec Inner fenders as they have kits specifically desiged for the stock shocks or Falcon's with the cutout. I had mine Line-X coated in black and they look killer!)

Looks awesome. As for Gears, I have 5:13's with the 40's and it'll still pull 8th gear occassionaly. The stock 3.6 gutless engine needs a Hemi Swap from my perspective but that a whole other convo !

Glad the steering upgrade was positive. Any install notes or mods? Everything bolt up as expected?
