Gotcha, hopefully it’s normal. A friend had a 17 or 18 JK with the Ripp kit on it and I do not recall that noise. Maybe it will break in like you said🤞

Sounds wrong but wonder if it’s a belt issue rather than the compressor itself. Would account for why you have the same noise with the new compressor. Just a thought.

That thought is actually spot on

So I did something interesting. I gave this in an ongoing discussion with ChatGPT. That thing is smart! Right away, it began asking me intuitive questions, citing examples, people's experiences, and so forth. After going back and forth for perhaps six iterations, It seems as though the supercharger gear lash sound is completely normal because of the straight cut gears. However, a very slight pulley misalignment or even more so, if the belt tensioner (New part from Ripp), is slightly out of spec, the gear lash sound will be exacerbated.
I mean, the way that thing led me down the diagnostic path was freakin genuis. I think I have a direction to track: zeroing in on that tensioner to get things quieter. Further, there were plenty of examples of the SC head making that exact sound if the lubricant was even a little bit low.
So, that's where I'm going and what I will do. In the meantime, I'll bolt the bumper and winch back on and get some real-world driving experience to see if this modification actually delivers what I was looking for.

I'll get after exploring the SC thing in a bit, but first, I need to get it all put back together again.

That means the front bumper and the winch.

After giving it a good fit, I wasn't completely happy with the finish, so I scuffed it off and shot it again. As soon as it sets up and dries, I'll toss all that back together. The new paint appears to have bubbled up in spots. Not to worry, that's what it does. I guess its part of the reaction process that creates that unique finish.

I’ve never had any lucky getting a decent finish with that stuff. I used black laquer spray paint and two coats of satin clear.

I had a pretty good finish the first time, but after moving it around, I noticed some light spots. It will either work or it won't. If not, then I'll sand and do something else. Anyway, the bigger issue is just getting it put together. One more day, then I am down hard for a while.

Good luck with your knee surgery, my wife does that stuff everyday so I always hear about it. Hope all goes well.

I think it’s super sensitive to impurities in the metal. It was probably an error on my end. I think part of the reason I’m getting nice finishes now is because I’ve been taking more time with prep.

this sounds like yours

not many videos of a 3.6 idling, found one other but that one didn't have the rattle.

It seems most of the videos posted were done by ripp and I was trying to avoid those to stay unbiased.

Thank you, I think it did.
Pain is getting managable
It's killing me seeing the Jeep parts stacked up and wanting "project time".

I think mine is OK, just lacking some fine tuning.
About as soon as I can walk again, I'll top/check the fluid level just to make sure that is spot on. Nxy I want to really examine what the belt tensioner is doing at idle. I'm going to drive it as soon as I verify those items are good. I want to know I have solved for the lack of power issue.
While I'm laid up I have been researching long arms and coilover setups...

Straight cut gears do clack. Every time cam “hits” in my car I hear the centrifugal charger make noise. Freaked me out at first but I learned to overlook it.

Oh, and forgot to mention. I was NOT able to get all the door hinge bolts loose! I ruined a couple more Torx bits from different companies. I tried to get it done the day before my knee replacement, sort of a longshot to get a success in before the long "down-time."
One of the bolts on the drivers door tore out all of its splines, so not I am going to have to go digging with some sort of extractor tool.
I did not try the impact driver, so maybe that would have helped. But anyone who is going after these bolts, please know it is not a certainty that they are ever going to loosen up!
