I was thinking his timeline might have been off a bit. I think the Pentastar made its debut in the new-for-2011 WK2 Grand Cherokee and didn't show up in the JK until the 2012 model year.

Whatever, the point is (originally made by someone else) that there's a history of new engines being phased in, so it's not like everything will be totally switched to the Hurricane all at once.
I was talking the 2nd gen 3.6

Problem is someone was also talking about the 3.8 so it got confusing lol
Yeah, it happens (a lot - to me! )

I wonder if ALLPAR or whatever it's called has the list of models, years, and when the 3.6 was introduced to each - and which version when.

That reminds me of how the 4.0 came about in the 80s. Even to this day some AMC people believe it was born of the 258. That is not correct.
The 4.0 was born of the AMC 4cyl engine.
The 4cyl was in many ways a chopped 258 so shared a lot of the same spacing and design elements but the 4.0 was born when the people at VAN told AMC - hey, how about a new I6 based on the 4cyl.
AMC poo-poo'd the idea...... then later out came the 4.0 based on the 4cyl design and AMC gave partner VAM no credit.

Anyway, the way these things come about can almost look like a full circle.

One could come close to figuring the length of the new I6 based on the known numbers from the I4.

Fit or not isn't the issue - is it worth FCA's investment in the needed changes, certifications and more that California and the EU and U.S. EPA demand? Then there's the NHTSA needs.
Change one simple little thing and it's got to be explained and tracked and tested.
I mean - just the location of the FAN impacts evaporative emissions certs. Longer or shorter engine with a slightly different fan location and there's forms to fill out in triplicate.
The days of "it will fit" are out with grandpa's Rambler.
i learned to drive on my grandpas Rambler (Matador wagon but he called it the rambler) Manual brake!! Manual steering but that thing had a power rear window on the swingout or drop down tail gate!

I was in Kindergarten, maybe 1st grade, when my grandfather taught me how to shift his 1960 Rambler. Never tell mother!
I worked in a shop that had been an AMC dealership for several years. The owner of the place dropped selling new cars but most of the customers were still AMC people - Rambler is what the boss called all of them.
One day he tells me to go out and get that green Rambler that's out front and check and replace the valve seals (blue smoke on deceleration, otherwise clean burning mostly)
So I go out the front door, look around, there's no Rambler out there that's green. There's Ambassadors, Americans, Rebels and so on but no green Rambler.
Andy grabs me and walks me back out and points - THAT green Rambler.
It was a 1969 forest green AMX with 390 and 4 speed. Wahoo! We had to test drive every car we worked on when we were done.......... I was very happy to be assigned that car to work on. When I dropped the clutch going into 4th I thought I was going to be in big trouble.

3 Javelins (68, 70, 73 I still have the 73)
2 AMXs although the 77 is really a fancy Hornet with extras, louvers, ground effects, fancy interior, 4 speed and so on.
4 Eagles - still have my 82 SX4. 84 wagon first wife got, 81 SX4 so I'd have a car after she got the wagon, a rare 1980 Eagle wagon limited I sold due to lack of space, etc. and the guy restored it to show condition. I am trying to give away a 1982 SX4 sport that need rust work (badly)
64 Rambler Classic 770 with a really nice interior with reclining bucket seats.
My current 82 SX4 has a 4.0 from a 1994 Grand Cherokee, PDC and all. Some of the parts in that engine still had AMC numbers and markings on them along with the MOPAR pentastar logo.

AMC talk, I love it. Still have a 360 in my CJ-7 buggy that I swapped in years ago. It has upgrades like fuel injection and an HEI but it is still a dinosaur. Even backed up by an AMC bolt pattern T400.
My riding buddies with their LS swaps think I'm nuts. :)

Then he is getting exactly what he hoped to accomplish. You clicked and then reposted his article which makes him money. All on some wild baseless speculations...
Seems like that’s about 90% of the auto content on YouTube at the moment.
