So it's much larger and still has significantly more range than the gladiator? The rivian is closer in size and the large battery variant is pushing 400 miles. I wish I could get range like that out of the gladiator.

Sure more range perhaps but that is a bone stock electric F150, no add ons and with only one passenger. Friend tells me in the winter its range is about 150 and it’s done.

More and more states are pushing for CA's "Clean Cars" emissions standards and there's many lobbying for them at a national level. I know a couple people who have been in a world of hurt getting their vehicles compliant.

This is something I’ve been waiting for…..and the other shoe I’m waiting to drop is vehicles older than 15-20 either being regulated to the point isn’t worth it or just not allowed to be registered. I can definitely see the national mandates though.

Having just gotten back from a stint in Europe, I can tell you that is already a reality. City centers deny access to cars older than a certain age. Taking them completely off the road is next. Sad when these types of things are unnecessarily forced into place.

I've cheated and run non compliant before and I'll fuggin do it again. Worse case scenario I can fab up a 6 cat system and run a cylinder deactivation tune. Once passed, swap out exhaust and switch tune. The real issue becomes when they care about what exactly is under the hood and wether thats stock or not. But thats cheatable too.

That won't work in a lot of places, they don't do exhaust sniffer tests anymore. They plug in a computer and read the sensors and do a visual inspection of the vehicle.
My brother had an STI that had a high-flow cat that was just as clean or cleaner than the stock 2-cat setup (shown by exhaust sniffer test), but the spec said the car had to have two converters so he failed the visual inspection.
The same is true for engines, the spec says its a V6 and they open the hood to a Hellcat or LS swap, you are going to fail regardless of how clean the tailpipe is.

They don’t do visual inspections in VA yet. But by cheat I generally find ways to just not get emissions tested at all. Or get it from someone who will wear 100 dollar glasses so to speak

Yall missed out. A tuned ecodiesel gladiator was the peak. Tons and tons of torque. 24mpg mixed on 38” tires. It was the ultimate engine.

Everything else will be government mandated electrified junk from here. It might 20 miles per gallon at the cost of reliability and weigh 30% more.

Here in the People's Republic of Maryland they demand our regressive $14 emissions testing tax every 2 years or else get your tags suspended and suffer greater consequences. And they'll never get rid of it- the Maryland General Assembly has never met a tax it doesn't like.

I hate these auto-journalist "artist renderings" of what a car may look like. It's not based on anything and it's always wrong. Every year or two someone trying to generate clicks claims to have scooped the next Nissan Xterra, and it always looks like a moon buggy with retro styling cues from the old 1989 Pathfinder. For about four years straight the same rendering made the rounds as "next year's Xterra" - but there had been no filings with the DOT, no testing, no pre-production mules spotted, no registration of trademarks, nothing.

This is nothing more than BS clickbait, and we don't have to reward that bullshit with views or attention.

That's getting harder and harder here, even in my state (which is about as far from "blue" as you can get), they have cameras watching the inspections and filming under the hood. They also regularly run stings with non-compliant cars trying to bust shops that help people beat the inspections.
It's a major fine if the shop gets caught and they can lose their ability to run inspections in the future - which is a huge blow to some of them that rely on those tests for part of their income. My old mechanic was next door to a DMV and passes a long-time customer's safety inspection with the understanding they would go right home and fix the problem

They got pulled over and told the cop "but it just passed inspection" and explained the deal trying to get the cop to let it slide. The cop took all that, went right to the shop and issued them a citation for passing the car they knew was faulty, that triggered an audit of all their inspections and no more free rides.

Bro! and I thought Utah was cool? That sucks. But if its happening there already, Its any day now over here. And people wonder why i wanna move to Idaho or Alaska.

Well. you know the people could unite and stand up against it. Governments only have as much power as people allow them to have. Boston tea party anyone? Unfortunately, nobody has the balls to actually do that these days.

There's too much at risk for most. They don't wanna risk what little they have. Especially when there are a good chunk of older generations who got the American dream and aren't gonna be cool will anyone trying to mess that up. It was easy to be a revolutionary a few decades ago. Anonymity was only a ski mask away. Now you breath the wrong way and you on a watch list somewhere. Attempt to act on it and you'll branded a terrorist and put down before you could enact any real change. I'm pretty sure it takes a lot more than 3% of a population to force hands in the modern world. A lot of Americans can't afford to bite the hand that feeds, even if its poison. I wouldn't say its hopeless but we stuck playing the long game and we already got the shortest stick.
