37” tire that is really 37”?

I don't really see the point over sweating .6 in. A good tire is a good tire. I'd never get a lesser tire just to pick up a half inch.

The closer you get to the right measurement, the closer your trans will shift at the correct spots.....

My Patagonia 37s measure 37. Period. Weight on the tire, 30 PSI. Won't fit in spare well which is 36.6" even at 0 PSI. The D rated sidewall is too stiff to flex between the rails. I can only imagine the 38 Pats mentioned earlier are probably damn near 38" on the truck.

Those are cool. I didn’t know anyone got as high as 36.8 in a 37x12.5. My MT Baja Boss A/T’s measure 36.5. I can get my spare in inflated, but not by much. Thanks for the post. It makes my decision to not go bigger than I have, since I want 5 matching for rotations.

I ran the Goodyear MTR Kevlars in a 37 before I put the Kanati's on and they only measured 36.2 on my rig at 34psi. They had about a 3/4 life left when I bought them and the guy said they were at 36.5 on his wrangler when he bought them new. I'd bet they would measure less on a JT because of the extra weight unless you ran over 40PSI in them.

Nitto's measure 36.4 mounted on a Gladiator with 36 psi of air. That might be as close to 37 you may get other than a Geolander.

If you want a true 37 buy a 38

Rim width is going to play into overall height. (Just a heads up/reminder?) so this info is good to post for comparison. ???

Goodyear MTR Kevlar 37x12.5x17 are one of the biggest 37s. They will not fit in the spare tire area - between the frame rails, even with zero air. They claim 36.8 inches and I think that is accurate. I have 4 of them. Here they are compared to the same size Patagonia MTR which I am using as a spare. It will fit between the frame rails.

It’s been awhile since it appears you switched to the Good Year MTR’s. How do you like them? How would you compare them to the Patagonias?

That's not a true , Pats measure 36.4 on a JT. 3 different rigs I've measured them on a all were the same. I was pretty close to running a set until I heard stories of the crappy life span and tire wear. They seem to be good until around the 30,000 mile mark. For sure at 30 psi you would be under 36.4.

What’s their load rating? D? If so, I’d likely run them closer to 27.

How well the transmission manages things has to do with the tire size the system is set up for. Not how close the tire is to the number written on the sidewall.

I've got 315/70s and I've set the tire size to 34.4 (I think) and everything is spot on.

If your 37s are actually 36.5's then you set the computer to 36.5

Ummm pretty sure I nailed the correct way to calibratecthe vehicle to the tire... and yes, how the trans shifts is directly related.... if I'm wrong in previous post, please explain how... also, not al 37's are 36.5, maybe consider starting at the beginning rather than the end of the thread

Definitely not a true 37 either. More like 36.3 mounted on a wrangler. They were on my short list when deciding on tires but ended up getting to good a deal on the Kanati to pass up.

Because you read my post incorrectly you assumed i was wrong, which isnt the case..... I never said "closer to 37", I said "The closer you get to the right measurement", which is 100% correct....

It’s been awhile since it appears you switched to the Good Year MTR’s. How do you like them? How would you compare them to the Patagonias?

I ended up getting rid of the Goodyear Kevlars before the Rubicon Trail last June. I put about 24K miles on them or so, and they did not wear good, and chunked up pretty bad. I bought the yokohama geolander g003 m/t to replace them. The Yokohama's have a softer sidewall and ride better. They also did not chunk at the Rubicon. I also think they grip better on the Rocks. For the Goodyear Kevlars to soften up for the rocks, I had to go down to 11 or 12 psi. The Yokohamas are soft at 13-14 psi. Here are some pics for you.
