Finally getting around to lifting and regearing my 25 Mojave. Going 37s. I know 4.88s are most common. Anyone have 5.13s and regret it? Did fuel economy tank after? Is the improved acceleration worth it?

Have you picked out the 37's you want? Look at their actual height. IF BFG's, those 37's are actually like 35's.

I put 35's on my 21 Mojave with the 4.10 gears and lost 8th gear on the highway. I regeared to 4.88 and got 8th gear back and picked up 2 mpg on the highway and 1 mpg around town and the Jeep drives so much better. I live in Colorado so going a little deeper help compensate for the 7,000' altitude and pulling mountain passes. Keep in mind it is not just the larger diameter but the extra unsprung weight that you're turning.

I don't know that I'd say 4.88 is the most common for 37s.

5.13 is common for 37s too.

I have 5.13's on the lightest/smallest 37" Tire and I love it. It puts the Jeep right where I like it. Theres <5% difference between the 4.88s and 5.13's, so don't think about it too much. But I get 18+ mixed city and HIghway and can easily pull my boat.

Nice. I talked to the shop today. They recommend 5.13s. I feel with the 5.13 it gives me flexibility to maybe try 38s or 39s at some point

So with my new Rubi @ only 1800 miles on it I am of course looking at builds. Love the BFG AT’s and the 37’s sound like a great idea. What advice can you give on running them? I would like to run them but am interested in all the changes needed. Gears at 5.13 and new covers is about as far as I got. Ideas for fit on a Rubicon X ?

the X will already come with 4.56's, so the jump to 5.13's is going to be pretty minimal. IMO its worth it if you have tons of $, but you won't see as drastic of a change as someone on 3.73's or 4.10s.

and as stated, the BFG AT's are some of the smallest and lightest tires available, so a 37 AT is going to be a bit smaller than other 37's, closer to 35.5". Depending on what tires come on you X factory you may not get as big a change as you are looking for.

light weight does help a lot. I"ve got a set of 37" ATs on aluminum wheels, and a set of BFG MTs on beadlocks, 70lbs vs about 110lbs, and there's a 2MPG Difference between the two, and I can definitely feel the weight difference when driving even with the e5.13's. If I ran the MTs all the time I'd actually prefer a bit deeper set of gears and just keep the speed lower. Trade off slower highway speeds vs a heavier more aggressive wheel/tire combination.

Gladiator's come with 4.10s even in X format unless something changed in 2026...the 4.56 come with factory 35s which the gladiators don't get.

Good to know, I thought all the Xs got 4.56 like the wranglers.

I have 5.13’s in my rubicon with 37’s. I happen to love them. Fuel is economy? Not good, but I’d attribute that more to the 37’s than the gear ratio difference between 4.88 and 5.13. I see 8th gear a ton, and I run at about 2300rpms at 75mph. At least if I’m not going uphill. Gas mileage is going to tank if you put 37’s on a 3.6 v6. No great way to fix that.

Completely agree on the BFG. Why even spend 37 money on big 35’s.

My MT’s are lighter than the two sets of ATs I used to run when it was my daily. Mickey Thompson Baja boss at in 37x12.5x17 is 80 pounds. The same in the MT is 75 I think. But definitely in the 70’s.

What are you running to get as low as 70lbs including the wheel?
