Antonio Filosa – who currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for the Americas and Chief Quality Officer – to assume CEO powers on June 23

AMSTERDAM – Stellantis N.V. (the “Company”) announces that its Board of Directors (the “Board”) has unanimously selected Antonio Filosa as its new Chief Executive Officer following a thorough search process of internal and external candidates, undertaken by a Special Committee of the Board, led by Executive Chairman John Elkann.

The Company will now hold an Extraordinary Shareholder Meeting, which will be called in the coming days, for Antonio Filosa to be elected to the Board to serve as an executive director of the Company. Meanwhile, to give him full authority and ensure an efficient transition, the Board has granted him CEO powers effective June 23.

The Board selected Antonio Filosa to be CEO based on his proven track record of hands-on success during his more than 25 years in the automotive industry, the depth and span of his experience around the world, his unrivalled knowledge of the Company and his recognized leadership qualities.

Antonio Filosa has led Stellantis in both North and South America. During his time as Chief Operating Officer of South America, he took the FIAT brand to the market leading position and then significantly grew the Peugeot, Citroën, Ram, and Jeep® brands. As a result, Stellantis increased its clear leadership in the region. His work on the creation of the Pernambuco plant, one of South America’s largest automotive hubs, launched Jeep® in Brazil, which quickly became the brand’s leading market outside of the United States.

As Jeep® CEO, Antonio Filosa expanded the brand’s global presence, including in Europe where its models continue to be best sellers for the Company thanks to hugely popular products such as the Jeep Avenger. He was most recently promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer, Americas in December 2024. Since his appointment, he has initiated the strengthening of the U.S. operations, including by significantly reducing excessive dealer inventory, reorganizing the leadership team, driving the process of introducing new products and powertrains, and increasing dialogue with dealers, unions and suppliers.

John Elkann will continue in his role as Executive Chairman when Antonio Filosa takes up his position as Chief Executive Officer on June 23. At that time, Antonio Filosa will also announce Stellantis’ new leadership team.

“Antonio’s deep understanding of our Company, including its people who he views as our core strength, and of our industry equip him perfectly for the role of Chief Executive Officer in this next and crucial phase of Stellantis’ development,” said Stellantis Executive Chairman John Elkann. “I have worked closely with Antonio over the past six months during which time his responsibilities have increased, and his strong and effective leadership spanning both North and South America at a moment of unprecedented challenge have confirmed the excellent qualities he brings to the role. Together with the entire Board, I look forward to working with him.”

“We unanimously welcome Antonio’s appointment as our new Chief Executive Officer,” added Stellantis Vice Chairman Robert Peugeot. “His track record of successful leadership during his many years with our Company speaks for itself and this, together with his deep knowledge of our business and of the complex dynamics facing our industry, make him the natural choice to become Stellantis’ next CEO.”

“The appointment of Antonio Filosa to lead Stellantis opens a new and important chapter for our Company,” said Nicolas Dufourcq, CEO of the Banque Publique d’Investissement (Bpifrance). “At a moment of transformation for the global automotive industry, Antonio Filosa has the knowledge, the experience, and the talent to lead Stellantis to new successes.”

“It is my great honor to be named the CEO of this fantastic Company,” said Antonio Filosa. “I am grateful to our Chairman, John Elkann, and to the members of our Board for their leadership, particularly in these recent months, and for the confidence they have placed in me to lead our business during this pivotal time for our industry. I have always been inspired by the immense talent, passion and commitment of our people at Stellantis and the power of trusting our teams to achieve excellence. We have the world’s best and most iconic brands in automotive history and an over 100-year heritage of innovation. That legacy, combined with our relentless dedication to giving our customers the products and services they love, will continue to be key to our success.”

IMHO To save Jeep, it will take a return to making an iconic styled, entry level, no frills, basic off-road, internationally deliverable, user customizable vehicle… they can still have luxury product too, but at $50K plus, most people are unable/unwilling to buy a Wrangler or Gladiator and a Wagoneer at $90K…forget about it! Sure they have lower cost SUVs like the Compass and Cherokee, but they look like every SUV from Asia and Europe. Stellantis needs to take a page from Amazon’s Slate or Toyota’s IMV… think basic CJ. Make Jeep Great Again - MJGA!

I agree - I am excited but with reserve. I hope Antonio is quick to fix the issues Jeep is facing and gets back to its roots.

Jeep needs a dependable, affordable, no-frills, utilitarian product - you know like the older Jeeps with the 4.0.

I love, love, love my ecoD Glad - but it can be simpler...and if they were a bit better with QC it would have been a real win. Recalls on things like axle seals shouldn't be plaguing JEEP....The fuel pump fiasco (BOSCH's fault) and the junk DEF/EGR systems are it's achilles...

Jeep looks with older 4.0 dependability under $40K would be a game changer for Jeep....

they need to make a “YJ/TJ” type jeep and truck. TJ comfort and YJ simplicity. I didn’t like all the add ons of the TJ nor the suspension of the YJ. Wasn’t much to hurt on a YJ compared to the new features of the TJ, and the TJ had better suspension than the YJ. Add a bigger motor and manual transmission at a below $40k price tag, the competition ouldnt be seen in the rearview mirror

I wouldn't get hopes up too much about an increase in quality considering he is currently and has been Chief Quality Officer...

Fuel pump isn't Boschs fault, its the piss poor low sulfur low lubricity fuel we get in the US. Other countries don't suffer from the fuel pump failures because they use better fuel.

Unpopular opinion:

All this talk about lowering cost and getting back to simple and reliable are just pipe dreams. Jeep "getting back to it's roots" would tank the company even more. Those of us enthusiasts that grew up with Jeeps when a Jeep was a Jeep are a very small percentage of the market, we are becoming a smaller part of the market every day, and future buyers don't want what we want. They don't want simplicity they want all the bells and whistles. They don't care about longevity because we now live in a throw away society. Price is becoming less of an issue for younger buyers because credit is easier and easier to get.

I think we will see Jeep move farther away from what Jeep used to be. The only people that care about simplicity, reliability, and low cost won't be buying new vehicles in 10, 20, 30 years. The Jeep enthusiast is dying and we aren't the target market anymore. The younger tech-driven-replace-it-when-it's-not-shiny-anymore buyer is now the target market.

Let’s hope he works more on quality.
I've not had a bit of problems there - however, just observing like I do - enough DO have that issue that yes, I can see that, and as something that should be addressed.
Quality actually does sell vehicles - even if they are a bit more pricy, if the quality is there, many will go for it. There are those of us who will pay a bit more for quality- just ask Lexus or Toyota. (not that I would buy one - but understand those who do)

As far as the other stuff - reality hits here - EU rules and laws, global markets, CAFE/EPA/MPG, it all counts. If Jeep leaves off things like the Grand Cherokee, Compass and similar, their CAFE numbers implode! Jeep can't survive on only the Wrangler and JT. Ain't gonna happen.
As far as pricing - gripe gripe gripe, we all do (yeah, me too, at times) but if you go to other markets where the standard of living is really pretty low compared to the states - and you see Jeeps by the dozens, they are everywhere - apparently, it's not as big an issue as some suggest.
It's sort of like "I want that shiny thing in the window, it's just not fair that it costs so much, leaving me out!".......
I'd love a 2,000 square foot house built in the last 20 years and a nice lawn and park-like setting, but it's not mine to have. So I'm in a 950 square foot house built decades ago, fading siding, doors that don't quite fit perfectly, and other aging parts. It is what it is.
Would I like a JLU fully loaded with V8 and all the trimmings? Probably.
Hell, I'd be thrilled if I could actually afford to get my 73 properly restored and like all of the others out there - it ain't gonna happen, but I'm not griping about how much it costs to get it done. I just don't get it done.

The younger tech-driven-replace-it-when-it's-not-shiny-anymore buyer
I would probably agree with much of the rest of your post - but - market studies suggest the latest buyers would actually leave out much of the tech. It's prior generations that drove it, the people coming into the market are more like "meh, don't need it, leave it out". It's almost like a backlash against the machine.

Interesting, a Jeep guy as CEO. I guess that's why there are rumors to save Stellantis, they will be putting LSD's, 33 inch tires and a Warn winch option on new Maserati's.

I keep looking at his picture and he just doesn't look like a Jeep guy. He looks much more like a guy who would be getting out of a Porsche.

But this guy looks like one of the best rock guitarists in history instead of your 8th grade math teacher?

What is a Jeep guy supposed to look like? I mean hell, if I could afford one I'd have a Porsche GT3 in the garage next to my Jeep.

And one reason I keep telling my wife - we're fine!
I'm the one who does the dusting and vacuuming anyway (thank goodness for oak floors - I ripped up most of the carpet years ago)
