AHHHHH!!!!WTF? Aux switch help!

so I know that those wires will not stretch to the next bolt and the paint is probably the issue.. go to ace hardware, they make a threaded coupler for all-thread (hoping its 1/4 20) to join 2 pieces of all-thread together.. best option I got right now!

Is it still under warranty? Take it back to the dealer before doing anything else. If they won't fix it, look into the other options provided.

Even if the dealer did a "warranty" repair, it would never be like factory when repaired. Those ground studs are put in early in the build just right after body panel stamping and before body assembly before it goes to corrosion preventative and primer bath dip. Base stud is like pressed in and then spot welded to the structure.

Would almost be a body shop repair if expecting a factory like replacement from a warranty claim.

You have enough thread for this. Done. I would weld a large washer on it for the large cables to rest on. I would trust a 6mm stud to handle the load. They make larger stud extensions made for electrical connections , I'm still trying to find one on Amazon.

More than enough space for a ground loop and a nut. Use a flange nut and if it's a connector like the one with teeth I used on the blower motor I restored, it'll bite.
Unless the wire's loop is really thick or you need multiple wires there, I don't see a problem.

It appears that nut has been removed before. When comparing the end of the stud in your hand with the end of the other painted stud, I noticed the paint has been stripped off the thread tips. Possibly whoever removed and reinstalled the nut before, over torqued it. As others have said, I would just use the other stud. The OCD side of me would grind/file that broken stud down smooth and touch it up with paint. The overly OCD side of me would grind the entire stud down to the plate, find a stud/bolt that is identical to the existing one, have a friend TIG weld it, and touch up paint to match.

Yes, it's been off before - the paint off the threads and you can see where the wrench gripped the nut on the clockwise parts of the flats.

Well thanks for the suggestions everyone. I went to bed last night with my tail between my legs thinking hmmm what if I parked it downtown and hope someone just stole it.

So I decided to continue the Aux button install and worry about the ground when finished. I didn't want to get it figured out just to take it off to finish my install. If anyone has done this it definitely has some tricky/pain steps. So after the bolt broke I took a break out of frustration, ate, and had some wine (which probably didn't help). Got the wires through firewall then came removing orange wire. This is worst part of install. I have depinning tools but still mangled the pin. Guess i just don't know how to do it with tool. Last step before putting everything back together was plugging 8 wires into plug that hooks into switches. Well guess what, between being tired and the wine I messed it up. There are 2 rows of holes numbered 1-5 on top and 6-10 on bottom. After double, triple checking everything I held plug upside down. So red wire goes into top left hole which is #1 I put it into #10 which is top left hole if held upside down!

Went to bed in frustration. Just drinking coffee, gonna go out there and try to fix it and get everything back together and tackle that ground. Issue is I suck at depinning these wires.

Doing Aux switches and Front trailcam at the same time atm. I removed the PDC and am using the nipple. I feel ya man. Just "relax". Easier said than done. I go to bed thinking about this chit and can't sleep. Sending the harness through the nipple when I get home.

On a side note, there were 2 connections on that bolt, 1 of them won't reach that front bolt and I may have enough thread split them and dob1 on the front and 1 on the back. GREAT observation on seeing someone took that bolt off before. I didn't notice that and that would explain it that front bolt along with all other 10mm bolts came off with no effort. Again I didn't put hardly any effort into taking the broken one off, just twisted right in half. Must have been dealer? I got it new.

I just turned mine last night after reading your thread. It came off easily. Yours was probably hit too hard on the assembly line.

Yeah I did the zautomotive front camera last summer, not bad but again depinning those wires...ugh. I finally got those out, a little mangled, I'm surprised my camera works lol
