I’m thinking about buying a Wrangler. Anybody have one?

I’d appreciate any insight on ride, road noise and power.

I’ve read mostly praise for the 2.0 4cyl turbo. Seems like that should be plenty for a small vehicle, but interested in any and all opinions.
I bought the 2020 Gladiator first. It was such a big upgrade on my 2004 TJ Rubicon that I decided I had to have a newer Wrangler. I bought the Blue 2020 JLUR a couple of years ago. I've been very happy with both vehicles. Both of my Jeeps have 3.6 engines and 35" tires. I've never felt like I needed more power. The Gladiator rides a little better than the Wrangler, mostly because they come stock with soft suspension settings. The noise levels are similar after I added a liner to the Wrangler's Power Sky Top. If I was buying again, I'd skip the Power Sky Top. The Gladiator has cloth seats, and the Wrangler has leather seats. The leather looks nice, but the cloth seats are more comfortable. Last year I added a shelf in the rear of the Wrangler. The shelf is a big upgrade for getting groceries or going on trips.

I have a Gladiator, my wife drives the 2.0 Wrangler 2 door. Hers moves 35's like they're nothing, and turns on a dime. There is NO ROOM in the two door but you kinda know that if you're looking at them. She gets the same gas mileage as I do. The sound is weird, especially on cold start. Not something I'd try to make sound better either. I have an AFE rock basher exhaust on my gladiator and I love the sound. The turbo has impressed me so far.

2020 JLURD I ordered it as soon as I heard Jeep was offering a diesel. Did the same with my JT. I love this thing.
and my JT too of course. 😊

Unless I planned on never having people in it or just wanted a runabout I would go with a 4-door. Maybe because I DD a CJ7 then a TJ for many years the added space and better riding wheelbase are wonderful.

I currently have 2 JKUR's and a JTR. Far and away I think the JTR rides better.

FWIW, the shorter your wheelbase is, the less stable/bumpy/wobbly the ride is going to be. Not saying "Don't buy a Wrangler", just that the ride of the 2 door Wrangler won't be as nice as the ride of a 4 door Wrangler and the 4 door Wrangler won't be as nice as a JT.

As Far as the engine goes, that is really a personal preference thing I suppose. The 3.6L Pentastar has been around for quite a while and is generally considered a pretty reliable engine. The stats say it can easily last 200K miles if well maintained. Yes there are a handful of known issues, such as misfires, but what engine has a perfect track record. Personally, I've had no engine issues with any of my Pentastars.

I hear people constantly complain about it not having enough horsepower but I've never found that to be an issue..for my use case. I mean, my goal is not to beat Corvettes in the quarter mile nor to tow a 35' travel trailer. I have more than enough power to get me to the grocery store and to drive on the highway at the speed I want to go and pass when I need to. I've also made it up and down every trail I wanted to crawl.

Wranglers are fun. Get one.

I’m following up on my own post!

I test drove a 2.0 Two door. The high revving motor along with the 8 speed trans made it a little surgy, but some driver adjustment probably resolves that. I found that the sound wasn’t offensive. But, it’s only available with the automatic trans which adds $2,500. I could live with it, but I’m not willing to pay $2,500 for it. Also, although it gets better mileage, it uses premium gas, so I figure that’s a wash.

Here’s the real bummer.

The Jeep configuration tool that the dealers use will not let them order a Wrangler 2 door Sport S with the Convenience Package and a soft top. You can only get a hard top. This just seems silly to me and may very well be a deal breaker. A move straight out of The Office of Sales Prevention

I’m checking to see if the dual top option is available although that feels like throwing good money after bad.

Thanks for listening…

We're working on getting a 4xe with a sky one-touch top as we speak. The wife won't shut up about that top :CWL:

Bed is nice to put stuff when going naked, so it won't fly out of the Jeep.
