I use Penzoil in the JT. I use Amsoil in my rally car (bored/stroked EJ engine) and my 450 Supermoto/Enduro. I DO use Supertech Motorcycle oil in my 230cc Chonda (Hawk DLX from Amazon, has EFI with GM ECU and Denso injector and MAP sensor and some in-house branded O2 sensor) since it doesn't have an oil filter (yeah, NO oil filter) and I change it every 1500-3k miles depending on use (beater bike around property and local town), but again it's a beater that I don't really care about, nor does it make any power...think Honda Grom power but in a full sized dualsport.

Here's a recent video comparing Amsoil, Lucas, and Penzoil: (CLICK HERE)
- Short cap: Lucas was the worst, Amsoil in middle, Penzoil (Ultra Platinum) was the best.
-- This was testing for modern DAILY DRIVERS, not extreme uses.
i have watched the videos from farm project before . I tend to favor the ones from OIL Geek cause he also sends the oils out to be lab tested for wear and whatever. '

you said walmart was cheap for a reason. I saw a video on Oil GEEK this morning and the $4 NAPA synthetic outdid the $10 synthetics because of the Moly oil package that was in the NAPA oil. so it was better in the test but it was the cheapest by more than half.

I usually use Penzoil Platinum but the best version is getting up their. I have used other products by Liqui Moly before and wondered about their new 5w30 . its green. but thats ok .

anyone tried it? and before anyone says "any good 5w30 will work or you are supposed to run 0w20" . I have to say some oils are able to quiet down engine noises more than others. dry starts and engine noise can be improved with better oils . not all of them are the same. ive used the moly lube additive. I thought I might try the oil instead.
1 - 5,000 mile intervals are a great idea. I've had these engines go over 200k miles with zero issues.

2 - Since 5,000 mile intervals are a great idea, it is a complete waste of money to spend extra cash on a particular brand of oil. Get a good synthetic off the shelf at Walmart and call it a day.

3 - I always buy 5W30. Haven't touched a bottle of 0W20 in my life for ANY engine.

I was leaning towards 5w30 myself until I saw testing that showed 5w30 actually sheared faster than 0w20 if it went out of its viscosity range.. Im still looking into it. Penzoil Platinum still is consistently the best over all oil in the tests.

My Camaro SS takes 5W-30, our van takes 5W-20, our mower and boat take 5W-30.

I have been very close before to just putting 5W-30 in the truck so that I can one oil for everything 😂 The van has already been getting 5W-30.

Based on my experience, and educated opinion:
- Based on the fact they are a lower QC brand with as many reports of issues as with Royal Purple oils.
- Based on the fact Walmart is a shady business that shouldn't be supported when possible due to their policies on sourcing products from businesses and the ethics of those businesses.
- Based on the fact SuperTech is the cheapest for a reason.

Have you watched any of the oil test videos from Project Farm?
I have multiple personal oil analysis that says it is fine and meets spec. Your opinion on Walmart business practices is just noise to the technical discussion. If there is actual test data and not opinionated supposition, I am all ears and willing to learn.

As to Project Farm, I am well aware of his oil tests and those for lack of a better term are just entertainment. His wear scar machine test is only applicable for Hypoid Gear oils and not motor oils. Dandruff shampoo will show excellent results on that machine he uses. Proper test is a ASTM 4 ball wear test but the average garage Youtuber is not going to have that kind of coin to do a proper test. Nor his his little coffee pot evaporation test can be considered anything but entertainment also due to lacking the control that ASTM affords.

I just wouldn't run SuperTech in anything I care about that still has an OEM warranty. Again, personal preference. Some swear by it. I DO use their motorcycle oil in my Chonda (Hawk DLX) but it's designed to be abused in terms of maintenance, no really...it's a clone of a 125 honda built for Brazil ONLY.

I also agree that his tested aren't the best, and could be flawed in some ways. I also agree with the OP about the other channel they watched. But with the testing I've dont with Amsoil in my race engine which I beat the living piss out of for over 30k miles (and maintain it to do such), Blackstone results consistently suggest I can go another 7000 miles without changing the oil. And they did mention slight fuel dilution, but that's expected when you force AFRs to run 10.5:1 😂

the Oil Geeks testing is better, imo , than the farm guy. the oil geek actually formulated oil for DRIVEN which makes motor oil for specific needs such as racing or daily driving. he stated the wear scar test is not the same as what happens inside a motor.

To be clear… *could* cause wear IF it shears out of grade. But….0W20 shears out of grade faster than 5W30 in a lot of cases. And, at 5,000 mile intervals no oil should shear out of grade.
