What’s the best way to hook a trickle charger up to the main battery. I would like to have something that I can quickly hook up and thought maybe going through the trailer plug versus a SAE plug hanging out the wheel well. I figure someone on here is doing something original. Thanks in advance

There's several other posts on this very topic - a couple of threads and pictures.
Going through the trailer plug is one way, some, like me, has installed the connector for my BatteryMinder so it can stick out through the hood gap if I wish, could route it up through the grill, I guess.

BatteryMinder connection wires marked + and - in this pic -

This is the connector used -

You could go through the OBD for small amperages
(like my device which maxes at 1500 mA)

There's been a lot of discussion and some depends on the device you use, amperage (max) and so on.

This is what I've used on my classic cars, lawn tractor and so on - have one my my JT now since it's been sitting most of the week.

I've had one of these bring a battery back from the dead - I was ready to turn it in for $5 and instead, it's still being used 2 years later.

I do the same as ShadowsPapa on my atv, tractor and lawnmower. I swear that I'm going to add a connector to the Jeeps, but I'm just getting lazy. Thank you for the motivation and reminder.

I went with a Noco 2D permanent mount. I ran an extension cord (with wire protection loom) down the left side of the frame and terminated it with a Noco AC port. I used a Curt generic trailer light mount bracket that lined up with the Noco mounting screws perfectly to mount it to my Softopper aluminum bed rail. All I do is back in the garage and plug my Jeep into an AC plug outlet like it's a hybrid.

Yeah, that was discussed as well - super-simple as you can get those trailer connectors almost anywhere. It's a plug and play solution using existing wiring in the truck.
My only problem is that I back into the garage........... and it would be SO easy to just drive away.
There's solutions for that as well, like cutting the plug so it can't latch in and using a strong wire to yank the plug out in case you forget.

I did actually buy the plug from Amazon as that was my original plan - and I may still do that as I could use the other connector I put on my JT over on my SX4 allowing me to keep the hood closed - I could run it to the grill.

Obviously for using the trailer plug and whoever’s trickle charger you would make sure the black wires line up and the white wires line up on the plug with the wires on the charger.

Mine has black wires - the ends are either red or black.
You'd wire to a plug like this - as it's the one with the direct hot lead to the battery up front -

Jeep Gladiator Battery Trickle Charging 1701455469342

And use tabs 1 and 4 for ground and hot respectively -

Just hooked up my trickle charger through the trailer plug and I’m getting an error light on my charger. I will need to check how my trailer plug is wired as I have a black, white, yellow and green wires only.

You must use the round plug!
The flat plug has no battery connection. I bet that's your problem, you are trying to use the flat connector. It only has ground, tail, right turn and left turn no battery connection. Only the big round plug will work.
