I don't think you NEED it to flex, I think you just need to have the gap between the cab and bed in CASE it flexes.Maybe the tube in the section front under the passenger seating area is heavier than a wrangler....IDK. I can tell you most certainly that driving over smooth rollers I can hear the door/roof gaskets squeaking letting me know there IS flex happening in the center of the chassis. Some flex has to occur or it will break? The question is how many cycles before it bends or breaks?
And there's a difference between rotational twisting flex when say the front right tire is dropping while the rear left is lifting... and flex where you're bending it entirely up or down from a hard force like a bottom our too heavy a trailer (esp off road)
It's also entirely possible these guys hit a series of whoops way too fast and bent the frame first which caused the crash. Even if they think the crash caused the bend, it could have been difficult to tell in the moment what came first, the bent frame or the crash.
Anyhow it all comes down to they were going way too fast for their setup.
