Best 37s for daily driver

I've been running 37" General Grabber ATx tires since 9k. I now have 26k on the clock and the truck is less than a year old.

It seems a lot of people hyperfocus on a lot of theory and physics these days.
Don't get me wrong, I've spend 30 years modding and building VW's, Audis, and the like. I wish that more people thought about angles, weights, and leverages more often.

That said, my experience with my JT (1st Jeep for me) is my only Jeep experience.
The trans is great, the brakes are great! I've towed cross country with a trailer, I've Overlanded from WV to FL to Az for 2 months. All on stock everything but the rims/tires and I've never had a braking issue in the JT. I've never said, "that was close" because I couldn't stop in time.

I live in the WV mountains, we don't have a road that's straight for more than a 1/4" w/in 20 miles of where I live. The JTR kills it.

Part of the reason I choose the rim and tires (besides having the bead grip & 3PEAK) was descent weight. My combo is just about 105# when some of the other combos I thought about were closer to 140#.

That's a huge difference and it does matter. It also matters that everyone drives like they understand they are in a truck and not a Lambo. LOL

Sorry, I'm not trying to be preachy, actually the opposite.
May I ask what wheels and lift you used to accomodate those 37 General Grabber ATs? That is the exact tire I want. Thank you.

Running 37 " toyo MT's. Excellent on road tire in wet or snow. Humm a little but can do over 80 mph no shakes. Off road they do excellent on sand/dirt/mud/ rocks. I've driven them in Tahoe, Carson city, Hollister Hills, Pismo beach. Truck has 2" mopar lift with stock 3.73's. Yup stock. No complaints.
I love hearing this. I have Toyo MTs in 35 and wish I went 37s. When I need new tires/go over 36k miles I'll be upgrading to the same tires you have

I run All terrain 34's if I'm in town or pulling my trailer. I throw my 37's on for the trails. Both have their own set of wheels. I'm not made of $'s so I save the 37's for legit trail use.

Sorry to revive an old thread. I was at the dealership getting my 1st oil change on my JTRD with a 2 in mopar lift. I still have my stock 33' WildPeaks. I really want 37's. I saw some Nitto Ridge G 37X13.50X17 at the dealership and started to drool.

Spoke to both the service advisor and the parts guy. Both said I should go with 35's. Concern: BALL JOINTS. They also said the 13.50 wide tires trammel alot. Not sure I would go with the wider tires. Prob stick with 12.50 wide.

Not a huge rock climber, but will be 4 wheeling in the desert and up North in the snow.

Point is. Any of you on 37's having to replace your ball joints prematurely?

I don’t think daily driver and 37s go hand in hand. Just get the tire you want or you probably won’t be happy. Or should I say the tire you think looks the best as that’s what most people do lol

I daily drive my 37 x 12.50 x 17 BFG KO2s, they were a bear to get balanced, but once they were, they ride great, almost 35k miles on them. I drive a combo of back roads and a descent highway each day, 40 miles round trip here in Virginia. Love my 37s. Also getting ready to take my second trip to Colorado on them pulling a small camper.

Lots of issues with ball joints. I have 35s and ball joints getting replaced next week at 30K miles. The ball joints now aren't up to par with those used on JKs. 37s and daily driver in the same sentence doesn't fit at least to me. Take the dealers advice and go with 35s. For a DD I would suggest Nexen Roadian ATX all terrains. 60k Tread warranty, 2 year road hazard warranty and they ride smooth and quiet. I switched from 10 years using Goodyear MTRs and don't regret it for a minute. I do 7000 miles a year overla nding and they are a great all around tire off and on road

Are the ball joints just garbage on the new Jeeps or what?

I've been daily driving beadlocked 37" Pitbulls (and bead balanced) on my TJ for over 5 years and haven't had to replace the balljoints. On, in most aspects, significantly weaker axles. So I didn't even consider balljoints, of all things, when I put 37s on my Gladdy.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that some packages get aluminum Cs/knuckles and some get steel. Anybody know the facts around that?

Also to the original topic, I've always had best luck with BFG KO/KM for daily. Good tradeoff of grip/performance vs treadwear. And they run light, so better ride, less wear on components, better mpg, etc.

Ball joints on JL and JT are weaker than prior models. That's the issue. I don't understand why Jeep cuts corners knowing that there are or going to be issues other than they are hoping that failure happens after warranty expires. Remember 90% of Jeeps are pavement princess that pretty much remain stock. The issues happening are to those who modify and/or off road thier Jeeps. The ball joint issues are a combination of over sized tires, extreme offset wheels and cheaply done budget modifications.

Are we talking about failure here, or accelerated wear? Because of course ball joints will wear faster when you're throwing more weight at them. I guess I'm just trying to decipher if people are being realistic here and there's actually a problem with them, or people are just repeating what they've read online because after warranty (36k miles?) their ball joints needed replaced.

Like I wouldn't even consider that an issue, that's a given. I'd just replace them with higher quality ball joints when the time comes. Basic maintenance.

But if they're just failing, that's kind of a different story.

lol no. JK ball joints are absolute shit. They went out immediately. They failed with stock tires quickly, let alone 35s. And don’t even think about 37s+. Heck, it took synergy and Teraflex multiple versions to even get a decent joint designed.

JL/JT joints are holding up to 40s.

*anything prior to JKs is even more laughable.

Well there are plenty of people reporting ball joint issues on JLs and JTs some at 5000 miles. I see nothing laughable other than your warranty claim being refused when yours go south. A buddy of mine was in an accident when the ball joint on the drivers side came apart at 26k miles. Jeep voided his warranty and refused to take any liability for the accident due to having teraflex bump stops. What do you think they will say to you when yours fail with 40s and whatever suspension changes you've made?

37in BFG KO2s are only 69lbs but 35.5in installed. Look at the tire weight, and not the listed number on the company site, look online or here for the real number. My wheel and tires setup is only 95lbs, not bad for the stock 4.10’s and a Mopar lift, and no ball joint issues yet, ? 42,000 miles (22,000 miles on 37’s)

The only common issue people are having with ball joints at 5K miles are that they arent torqued properly from the factory and you get squeeks that are being diagnosed as bad ball joints. That said, if you are throwing 90-100 pound nittos or wild peaks on 40lb rims, the stock ball joints arent going to last as they are designed around a 63lb metric 35 with 30 lb rims.

I daily drive grabber ATX 37's, they're fantastic for daily driving other than the hit to MPG. Given i'm basically sea level even the performance hit isnt too bad with 0-60 in 9 seconds flat despite all the heavy mods.
